Healthy Weight Loss

Quote  |  Reply
Hi,

I am working towards losing 40-50 pounds by mid March early April of 2008 for a wedding. I am currently 190 pounds I am reducing my calorie intake and increasing my time of exercising to about 30 mins of aerobic exercise (was 15 mins) for 3-5 days a week. I am also trying to incorporate weight training in order to be more toned. My question is, is 40-50 pounds a healthy weight range for my time frame? Also I am new to the weight training so how many sets and reps should I do in order to be more toned? One more question I am 190 pounds and 5'2 so what would be a good calorie intake for me, I think I take in about 2000-2500 calories right now?

Thank You

No one can tell you any of this as it is your body and everyone's bodies work differently. You can, however, get an idea by using the tools on here. :)

Best of luck! I'm also trying to lose for a wedding in May. :P

Ok thank you and good luck to you!!

I just wanted to say good luck on everything!  I'm new to the scene, so I can't offer much advice.  But I have a similar goal- to lose 40 pounds by July 2008!  If you need anyone to chat with- I'm here!

Hi!

I'm also 190 and NEED to lose 30 lbs. by March (no reason, just NEED to). I'm 5'6 and pretty toned from being active but still, 190 is too much.

I do 45 min of intense cardio 4-5 times a week and 30 min. weight training 3-4 times a week. My daily intake is 1200 calories of healthy foods...and I'm done eating by 7pm.

Most important thing to keep in mind is that you MUST burn more than you eat!! Calculate how many calories you burn on a regular day and eat 800 calories less than that. That way work out days are bonus...you burn twice as much. I personally believe in steady healthy eating, no need to over-eat on work out days. It defeats the purpose.

So far this has been working for me and I'll be more than happy to help if needed...!! Good luck!

^ What is it with these posts promoting starvation today? I reported a violation so hopefully the last comment only can be removed.

sarah, thanks!

leelee,

As mentioned above, we're all dealing with similar things, but none of us are exactly like anyone else.  So what works for me, may not work for you.

10-15% of your body weight is the amount that experts say is a good amount to lose in a 6 month period.  So for you, 10-15% would be 19-28 lbs.

The reason they advocate slow weight loss is mainly that people who lose weight faster than that are more likely to regain it.  There are probably several reasons for that... but a main culprit is that people who lose weight faster are more likely to be engaging in practices that aren't sustainable long term.  And radical practices are more likely to impair your metabolism so that you have a tendency to gain rather than maintain.

But another way to look at it is 1/2 to 2 pounds a week is a safe rate.

If you lose .65 lbs a week for the next 6 months, you'll have lost 40 lbs.

That doesn't sound so bad, but you have to remember that almost EVERY dieter has plateau's that last for a week or two at best, longer at worst.

But just take a healthy approach and there is no stopping you!

Smile
