heart rate- abnormaly low?

Quote  |  Reply
I was checking my heart rate the other day/night and my resting heart rate was 34 bpm..I thought that was a little low, and I've read that that is actually pretty normal for athletes.  I'm fairly athletic (run on occasion, play soccer, snowboard, walk 30 mins to and from school twice a day, walk everywhere). Should I be getting this checked out, or am i considered an 'athlete'?

34 is pretty low -- most athletes wouldn't be that low, and they are mostly talking about athletes who train extensively, with a lot of cardio (track, marathon, swimmers, etc).

I would have it checked out just to be safe

My doctor told me that low BP and HR are only a problem if your having symtpoms caused by them.  She said that in a healthy person they're actually fine and nothing to worry about.  But if you start feeling dizzy or light headed and having weird heart rhythms or palpitations then you need to worry.
Yeah, even if you are an athlete, heart rates don't go that low... I'm an athlete too and mine's in the low 50s I think. I was talking with my dad a while ago and he said that marathoners can get their's into the 40s.. low 40s. I agree with those above me that you should get it checked out just to be safe.. you never know.
Woah, didnt mean 34...meant 54
well 54 is entirely normal -- that's what mine is
oh 54! lol that's totally normal :)
