Heart rate/pulse with weight loss
Hi everyone,
I went to a cardiologist this summer after getting an EKG and seeing that my pulse was 32 (normal is like 70, I think). Over the past 3 years I've lost about 50 pounds (high of 211, down to 155 right now), and if you look at my doctor's records you can see all my numbers going down with my weight: blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) and pulse. Normally this would be a good thing; amazing athletes always have low pulses, but I do max 30 minutes of running a day.
I know I'm healthy (confirmed by the cardiologist): I don't faint or anything, and I have no problem getting my heart rate up to 180 when I exercise. Most likely a low pulse runs in my family and with weight loss my metabolism and pulse have slowed even more.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen the same trends with pulse, and what your response is. Thanks for any anecdotes!
Yes. Although not as extreme as yourself. Before I lost 90lbs it was 65ish now first thing in the morning when I wake up mine is around 42-45.
Over the last few months I've pushed myself quite hard at the gym and pool but the resting HR hasn't changed. During a hard workout I can get close to my estimated maximum of 172 - I've seen 170 occasionally.
ETA: I recently had an ECG and that was perfectly ok.

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
