Does heat/sweat effect the calories you burn?
I like to bike, but living in florida it sometime gets a little bit to hot and i sweat WAY to much.... what i want to know is does it make a difference? someone once told me that the more you sweat the more calories you burn, is that true? should i just switch to a stationary bike? thanks.
Sweat doesn't really mean that you are burning more calories but that you are losing more water. That is why it's important to drink plenty of water after a workout to replace all the water that the body loss and prevent dehydration. You can get a stationary bike if you find it too hard to work out in the hot weather. However, if you don't mind the heat then you can save the money. ![]()
Thank you i'm glad to know that i dont have to sweat.
I always drink alot, even when i dont bike, but does drinking help with weight loss in anyway?
Very welcome!!!
And yes, drinking water is very essential to weight loss in many ways. First, water helps curve hunger. You can also see a weight gain if you dont drink enough water.

Thats one of the many good articles I've read about the importance of water. Hope you find it helpful![]()
thanks again![]()
Drinking plenty of water is essential when working out to prevent dehydration, but I'm not sold on the idea of 8 glasses a day. The 8 glasses a day has no scientific basis. In fact, it arose out of WWI when the military was trying determine the water ration for the soldiers. Recent studies have shown that, in fact, being slightly dehydrated is alright. Now, drinking 8 glasses a day won't hurt you, but don't be fooled into thinking its a miracle cure. The best rule of thumb is to drink when you are thirsty (unless you are exercising, in which case drink BEFORE you get thirsty).
Here is an interesting interview regarding this 8 glasses a day idea: http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/food/c hi-health-water-23jul23,0,3410408.story
curve: to have or take a turn, change, or deviation from a straight line or plane surface without sharp breaks or angularity
curb: to check or control
You can curb hunger but cannot "curve" it.

I don't know... sometimes my hunger is pretty sharp and angular, and drinking some water smoothes it out and makes it more of an arc instead of an isoceles triangle...
That said, I know what you were trying to correct ;)

Thanks, next time I need to revise something that I write, I'll be sure to give you a call ![]()
But really, I think everyone got the point!

You missed "effect the calories you burn" vs. "affect the calories you burn." If one wants to be a word Nazi, one should leave no stone unturned or risk having such thrown back in one's face. Such is the way of the Internet.... ![]()
But as to the point of this post, as has been said, when you sweat you are losing water, and thus temporarily, water weight. That being said, sweating can also indicate that you are working hard, which is very good for weight loss.
Oh man, you two have made me feel not so smart
.
I have a few more posts, just in case you guys want to go correct my grammar on those too ![]()

That was not my intent, and I'm sorry. I was just saying I find it's never a good idea to make comments about people's spelling/grammar/etc. because there's always something you miss when you do so. And that usually comes back to bite you in the you know what. Everyone makes mistakes: EVERYONE. So it certainly doesn't mean one isn't intelligent.
o man, now i feel stupid.
