K so I read alot about people starving at the end of the day... I often find myself the opposite throughout the day. If I give myself small low calorie meals throughout the day I am not hungry at all. The problem is that after dinner (around 6 or 7) I will find myself inputing dinner into the log and realize I'm 500 short of what my "recomended" intake is. I would just like to know does anyone know of high calorie foods that arnt junk and that arnt extreamly filling. I know most fruit... is that it?
Natural peanut/cashew/almond butter is great for you and an awesome source of protein. Granola is amazing as well, for me cereal isn't very filling. Also dried fruit and you can try 100% fruit juices as well! Adding olive oil onto meals is also a good way of getting in extra calories and is ridiculously good for you. Way to go too on realizing that you need those extra calories!
I'd recommend checking out trail mix. Lightweight, not overly filling, high calorie, yet still healthy.
Pretty much whatever combination of nuts, seeds, and dried fruits (raisins, etc.) floats your boat should be able to help you up your caloric intake with a few handfulls.
nuts in moderate quantities. Dried fruits work for me. Skinny cow ice cream sandwiches
Sheesh, I just read another post on this same thing!!!! Consider yourself lucky. At the end of the night I log my dinner and think to myself, how in the world did I eat that much today?!
My secret: peanut butter. Incorporate this into your day! Its 200 cal per serving, so just one serving will put you closer to your goal.
Also, trail mix is delicious, but I can't eat it (because I will not stop eating it) and it is high cal.
If you list a sample day of yours, I'm sure we could help you tweak to add some cal. here or there.
What everyone said and especially gi-jane's suggestion of logging in advance. I was doing it all the time to make myself eat more.
One of my high calorie snacks is a peanut butter and honey sandwich
on Oroweat bread (100 calories a slice). That's a 490 calorie snack/meal.
I'm having appetite issues myself so I have to find things to prevent starvation. Smoothies at breakfast or afternoon time helps too. 8oz of kefir, frozen banana (or other frozen fruit) and 2 TBS of vanilla syrup.
Well I don't know how healthy it is, but I actually save cals so I can have a treat at the end of the day! I usually eat Edy's Grand Light Vanilla Ice Cream (100 cals 1/2 cup) with a couple crushed reduced fat oreos....I don't sin during the day, and I look forward to that treat most nights!
Incorporate more liquid calories into your day... a smoothie as an afternoon snack, especially made with peanut butter, can fill that 500cal gap without you really needing to stuff yourself. A glass of milk or soymilk, a glass of fruit juice, a glass of wine, stuff like that. It won't fill you up but it'll get in calories pretty easy. Some weeks I get most of my calories from liquids.
If you're eating it now, throw out all your 'diet' crap, like fat free mayo (it's all chemicals anyways), canned fruit in 'light syrup', and the weird stuff like splenda and equal and whatnot. That'll boost your calories without even any conscious thought throughout the day.
Mm avocado! It's great because you can throw it in to pretty much anything. Salads, sandwiches, even smoothies since it can be pretty bland. I also throw flax seeds and sunflower seeds (raw and hulled) in to stuff. I made hummus yesterday with black beans and ground flax seeds. My hubby loves it!
