I keep getting heavier!
I'm in need of some serious advice or atleast a little emotional support lol. I'm new to this site.
I keep gaining weight! In my default pic I weight 134lbs that was new years this year and now I weigh 141lbs! and I'm 5'7" I eat healthy yesterday I had a cup and a half of fiber cereal with skim milk for breakfast, a pb and j on wheat for a snack, for lunch I had half of a smoke turkey sandwich and a cup of vegetable beef soup, and one serving of chicken tortilla casserole ( I got the recipe from a health food site) for supper. And I exercise like a mad woman! I jogged for 65min and then weight trained for 45 min yesterday too. The day before I jogged for an hour and 40 min! And I stay pretty consistant I eat and exercise like this most days of the week.
Every morning I step on the scale and I weight around a half a pound more almost every day. And if I do go down a half pound or so I just weight twice that the next day. I'm so confused and I'm starting to get depressed by it. Please any advice is welcome
You need to weigh your food and figure out the calorie count and your calorie deficit to start with. You might not be eating enough or you might be eating too much. With the amount of exercise you are doing I would definitely want to know for sure what the daily calorie deficit was.
Hello!
Well my suggestion is a couple things.
1. Are you looking at sodium and sugar intakes? Sodium makes you retain water, and well sugar... not good.
2. Are you eating ENOUGH calories? If you eat too little calories, you will gain weight.
3. Also you might be gaining weight from muscle.
Also your weight fluxuates in the day (mine almost 3-4lbs!) its best to weigh yourself in the morning, and i do it maybe twice a week.
Hope that helps!
Well I have takin all this into consideration. I eat about 1600 to 1800 calories each day and I've been keeping a very close watch on this for 2 weeks. I know that I burn around 700 cal each hour I'm on the treadmill but I'm not sure about the stregnth training. I realy feel like I'm eating enough because I'm never very hungry.
I dont think its water retention because I have had the weight increase for a month now! And I weight my self at the exact same time every morning as soon as I get out of bed and I strip down butt naked lol.
How old are you? I'll plug your stats into a calculator and see what I get.
how many times a week are you doing weight training? also when your jogging, are you on a treadmill or outside? It might be because your gaining muscle, i mean do your clothes fit the same?
I'm 21
I weight train 2 to 3 times a week and I always jog/speekwalk on the treadmill with the incline turned all the way up. I thought about the muscle thing but I've been working out since I was 16, so should I be gaining that much more muscle. On most days my jeans feel tighter than they did a few weeks ago escecially in the thighs
I was thinking muscle gain too... 45 minutes of strength training every day?
If you rule all of those scenarios out that everyone has given you, maybe it's time to see your doc just to check your thyroid. Maybe print out your logs and show them and maybe they can offer better medical advice.
I take a body sculpting class 2 times a week that lasts and hour and I strength train atleast once a week on my own. I jog/speed walk atleast 4 days a week for 60 to 99min every time. Yeah stregnth training 45 min a day would kill me lol.
I guess I should talk with my Dr but I feel sooo silly because I'm still in my weight class but I've gained 7 lbs in 3 weeks and 3% body fat. I feel like I'm spiralling toward an unhealthy weight.
Well I've calculated that your BMR is 1,483. You need just that much to keep your heart beating and brain fuctioning.
What do you do for your job? With mine alone it sets me at moderate. So let's assume you have a lazy job. lol Including all your exercise, putting you at a moderate activity level, you could eat (RMR) 2,227 to maintain. If you're not sitting all day, you probably need more than that.
Make sure you're netting no less than 1,483 though.
I'm a paramedic so I go from sitting on my butt watching tv, to jumping up and throwing on my boots and running out the door. Its pretty half and half some days it seems all I do is tote overweight people up and down stairs and somedays the only time we get in the ambulance is to go get something to eat.
I'd realy like to get back down to 134lbs mainly so I can still wear all my clothes but right now I barley fit into anything
u may be pregnant
Not possible I'm on the depot provera shot ![]()
Its still possible to get pregnant while on birth control. Also birth control in general can increase weight gain.. its a known side effect! *laughing* =*(
I'm not pregnant. I know that depo can cause weight gain but I've been on it for years and have never had a problem with that before
You're 21, and I hate to break it to you, but your metabolism changes a bit around that time. It seems like a bit much to put on in that short amount of time, but keep track of it, you may be leveling off at a new set point. I think mine changed around 22, not a whole lot of weight gain, but 3-4 pounds.
A quick check of your scale maybe? It may need to be recalibrated.
Finally, you're 5'7" and 141. That's... healthy. Not to say that you should just accept it, but you shouldn't obsess over it.
I'm 5'7" and I would rather like to be 141 right now...that being said. It sounds like with all the exercise that you are not eating enough. If you are working out like crazy, burning 700 cals an hour and only eating 1600-1800 then you are left with 900-1100 calories to run the show, and that's not enough.
Hate to break it to you, but you are NOT gaining muscle. Gains in muscle mass are impossible with a calorie deficit. You may be gaining strength, but this weight is not muscle. Sorry.
You should check out your numbers, because it sounds to me like you are burning a lot of cas a day and having HUGE deficits, which could be the reason behind the gains.
ooooh that metabolism thing burns. It makes me sad to think about getting older lol. I know it all has to do with metabolism but I really don't understand how eating fewer calories and working out more could possibly make me gain weight. If there is a deficite then I should be loosing weight, right?
My metabolism just changed (I'm 21) and I've gone from being able to eat anything and be a healthy weight, to gaining 2 stone in 6 months and being in the "overweight" section of the bmi scale. I'm your height too and wish I was 141!
But I digress, I don't know if you read what everyone has told you, but too much of a defecit will cause weight gain. They've all explained it much better than I could, and to me it sounds like this (and the metabolism change) could have something to do with it.
