Heavyweight Challenge 2007-2009 - 5 Days Until the Next Weigh-In (Mar 23, 2008)!
This is the post for the Heavyweight Challenge 2007-2009, for which sign-ups were held here.
All participants have been assigned to one of either Team Hare or Team Tortoise. The team with the most points at the end of the challenge wins. You may earn points in the following ways:
- Each percentage of weight lost is 100 points, and fractions count, so that 0.1%, for example, is 10 points.
- If you specify your height, each KG/M^2 BMI lost is 300 points.
- If you specify your body fat percentage, each percent loss is 50 points and each percent gain of lean body mass is 100 points.
- Each day, you can earn 0.015 points per calorie under your burn you have consumed. This is only if you post your calorie consumption and burn each day, or for all 7 days (Sunday-Saturday) if you post it on each weigh-in.
- You can earn 0.025 points for each calorie you burn with exercise daily, if you post it daily or for all 7 days (Sunday-Saturday) if you post it on each weigh-in.
- Every weigh-in, the winning participant and team from the last weigh-in will be calculated. The winning participant will be given 50 points, and the winning team will receive 25 points for each person on the team. Further, the person who earns the most points for a weigh-in on each team will receive 25 points.
- For each person who reaches a goal on or before the goal date, they earn 1,000 points.
Weigh-ins are on Sundays. You should try to weigh-in on this day if you can, but you will have until Saturday night at midnight each week to weigh in for the previous Sunday. I ask that you certainly don’t make a habbit of weighing in so late, but some people can't always make it on Sunday. Also, if you miss four consecutive weigh-ins, you’ll be removed from the challenge. This challenge depends on participation.
Keep an eye on your dynamically-generated stats, as it will let you know whether you are on track. It will let you know if you should be able to reach your goals, and on what dates, and also how far you have come so far.
When you weigh in, at least specify your current weight and not only the amount lost. In addition, if you do not post your calorie consumption and burn and calories burned with exercise every day, you can post them when you weigh-in for the previous seven days (Sunday-Saturday).

Everyone,
I have some bad news. My host last week got hacked, and this week the RAID array went corrupt, losing all content. He had backups, but as of now I can't find the script I use for logging everyone's data. Generally I just login, select the person's name, enter the date, and the weight, and it's logged for me as well as statistics generated as you see in this thread. I'll login later to see the damage, but we're out of luck if it is gone or if the data is corrupt.
I've been thinking of dropping this anyway because of how little time I have, but was still in consideration. I was at least going to wait till summer to see if that was any better. I'm actually trying to start a Web site development business to help pay for college, so even in the summer my attention will be directed there.
anyway that's the current situation. I'll let you know what happens. I apologize for what's happened.
Well, Dev, S%&T happens. I thought it was a little ambitious to start with but we can still check in and chart our own course and stay motivated. I noticed that an awful lot of people have dropped out anyway. What do you think Omwi and others who are still here?
I agree. We can all still check in as often as we like. I felt bad that I hadn't been around much to stimulate discussion, but that's just how things go I guess.

Hi: I'm at 178.8. Went all the way up to 180.2 between the overexercising last weekend and then that scumptuous dinner last week. But on the way back down now I hope. I just ordered a Polar F6 on ebay to track calories burned, etc. Everyone raves about the monitors so I figured I'd see how it works. Especiallly since I'm doing things that constitute exercise but aren't readily findable in the exercise lists as far as how many calories burned. Later today, after hubby finishes golf, we are going to clear out some brush, etc. and I wouldn't be able to find that in any listing for calories burned. Wish I had my monitor already.

I kind of slacked off a little last week and this weekend I ate a lot of junck I haven't had in a while. This week I am going to bring it up a few notches and push myself a lot harder then before. Hopefuly by Sunday I will have lost at least a lb if not two!

Hi all: I've hit a new low of 176 even this morning. I also got my Polar F6 a few days ago and have used it twice and I'm hooked. Love that thing. Of course, I'm still trying to figure out all of the buttons and stuff and I can't wear it very long because I'm allergic to metal so the watch back and clasp will eat my skin eventually so I just use the wrist band when I'm engaged in exercise but it is sooo cool. Actually says I'm burning more calories than the treadmill I have says. But that makes sense because the treadmill is an older model that doesn't let you enter weight, age, etc.
I'm REALLY, REALLY hoping that everyone doesn't jump ship just because the program is broken. A lot of people have left already but we did have a pretty stable core group left. Even if there is no "contest", this has still been a very motivational check in for me each week. We all know where we started and what our goals are so, hey, let's keep it going.
Another all time low. 175.4. I think the F6 is motivating me to do more time on the treadmill. Absolutely love it.!!!
Hi - I have not and will not jump ship. The stats that dev did were nice but not the reason I'm involved. I need to be responsible to a group to weigh in, etc. Since my surgery, I've had a hard time getting back on the wagon so to speak. I've only had a few good days (regarding weight loss). Today I weighed 169.6. I haven't really gained much weight but I've been eating whatever makes me feel good (emotionally). I need this group, however small, to help me get motivated. I've lost 30 pounds roughly and have about the same to lose still. I'm not going to make that April weight but I am determined to make the final goal by the end of the year. Who's with me?
Susan - I have an Omron heart rate monitor. I haven't used it much but I think I'll start today. Maybe it'll help me get motivated. I think it does about the same as your Polar F6.
Thank you Onwi: Glad to see there's still someone here and we must be about in the same boat. This new low puts me exactly half way there. My goal is 139. And don't worry about the recovery period. The total health is a whole lot more important that just weight loss at this point. The fact that you are thinking about it is a good sign. I don't think I'm going to make my April goal either but at least it should be close. And it's the final goal I'm after anyway. I'll stick in here even if no one else does but it is nice to know that there is at least one other person who thinks the same way. It's rainy and nasty here today but I had to go out and buy a new washing machine. You reallly know you're a hick when your greatest enjoyment for the day is watching the new washer work. The one I had was over 20 years old and finally starting spewing oil onto 2 whole loads of clothes before I realized what was going on. We got a brand new, state of the art front loader with so many bells and whistles I was afraid to start it. AND it had to have High Efficiency clothes detergent? Never even heard of that before but apparently it produces less suds. So this brand new bottle of detergent I got is going to have to go to a family member. Luckily I just got my tax refund so we could afford what we needed.... My sister had to go buy one yesterday too because her's has been leaking for a year but at least it wasn't ruining her clothes. The neat (?) thing is it ruin two of my bras so I bought a couple new ones and I've gone from a 44 to a 38!!!! Cool.
I do not want to jump ship either. I mean, I'm not gona quite this great life style, and I'll stay in this group as long as it's a live.

Loosing again, any little bit helps! I have been a little afrade to look at the scale, but I braved it this morning and I'm at 168lb. I'll take it and hope i keep on moving again at least loosing a lb a week.
Hi Bonny08, glad you are still here and congrats on the weight loss. Mine is definitely not going as fast as I would like but oh well, like you said, every little bit helps. I'm definitely not going to make my April 6 goal but I'll be close. Within 5 pounds anyway. And I did kind of sabotage myself yesterday by having a cheeseburger and french fries. That's first for many months and I was stressing at work...
Weighing in at 177.4. Back up a couple of pounds from my low this week. Yesterday I cooked for the upcoming week and tend to nibble when I do that. Oh well, need to get a little more motivated. Plus the weather is crappy. I definitely like sunshine more... So I didn't reach my goal of 170 but still not that far off. I think I'm going to be super strict this week to make up for it. Maybe cut out all of my alcohol, which I haven't done to this point. Hope y'all faired better than I in reaching your goal.
Hi - I weighed in at 172 today. I really haven't been doing good with my food. Yesterday and today haven't been perfect but have been much better. Yesterday was the first day we have had nice weather - on the weekend. It was 65 and sunny. We went for a really long walk - husband, kids, dogs and I. It was great! So, I gained a couple more pounds but my food is getting better and I'm getting moving. The spring weather is inspiring. The tight pants are depressing. Maybe the two together will help me get my butt in gear! Talk to you soon.
Thanks Susanfinkel. My weight is not moving this week. 168 and holding. This is becoming my new usual. Loose 2lbs stay the same for 2-4weeks, loose 2lbs stay the same for 2-4weeks. But considering i haven't really been giving it my all in the past month, I understand why.
onwi, the weather just broke where i am as well. The first weekend with 65 degree weather was great. I didn't come inside much yesterday. Went out for brunch with some friends (and got to sit outside), walked the dog for an hour or more, and then sat in my tiny row house's back yard with my dog and soaked up some more sun for much of the remaining day light. It' was great!
I become a hermit in winter. I am challenging myself to get out more this spring/summer. I get my hours cut back to 30hrs a week come May and am planning on cutting back to 3- ten hour days and having four off! I want to just do some free lance to compensate for those 10+ hours I'll be missing from home.
I thought about joining a softball team or something, but i don't really want to be tied down to anything more then work. I want my free time to be just that. Not having to plan everything around nother day.
Easy for me to say i guess. I don't have kids, well I do have a dog and two cats, but something tells me it's not exactly the same thing :)
So my goal is to loose two pounds by next Sunday! and then to do it again the following week. Just those two weeks in a row for now. Wish me luck.

Hi everyone,
Not much to report here. My scale actually broke for some unknown reason, so I'm waiting until I get my new one that I ordered last week.
Until then, I have no idea what my weight is. I was not so good over spring break, and it's hard to be good at college, especially when you are in a fraternity and they enjoy either ordering in or going out to eat quite frequently.
But, I did increase my practice time up to 3.5-4 hours (my goal eventually is 5 hours, since I'm learning a really difficult piece—a piano concerto), and I do wonder if that doesn't burn some calories, especially when I do this for so long every day. One can hope, lol.
I'm looking forward to the end of the semester in about 2 weeks.
Dev - good to hear from you! Just wanted to announce that I am finally tracking all of my food in CCP again. I haven't done a full day of logging since the end of Jan! Of course now the scale is starting to go down. Yeah!
