Heavyweight Challenge 2007-2009 - 5 Days Until the Next Weigh-In (Mar 23, 2008)!

This is the post for the Heavyweight Challenge 2007-2009, for which sign-ups were held here.

All participants have been assigned to one of either Team Hare or Team Tortoise. The team with the most points at the end of the challenge wins. You may earn points in the following ways:

  • Each percentage of weight lost is 100 points, and fractions count, so that 0.1%, for example, is 10 points.
  • If you specify your height, each KG/M^2 BMI lost is 300 points.
  • If you specify your body fat percentage, each percent loss is 50 points and each percent gain of lean body mass is 100 points.
  • Each day, you can earn 0.015 points per calorie under your burn you have consumed. This is only if you post your calorie consumption and burn each day, or for all 7 days (Sunday-Saturday) if you post it on each weigh-in.
  • You can earn 0.025 points for each calorie you burn with exercise daily, if you post it daily or for all 7 days (Sunday-Saturday) if you post it on each weigh-in.
  • Every weigh-in, the winning participant and team from the last weigh-in will be calculated. The winning participant will be given 50 points, and the winning team will receive 25 points for each person on the team. Further, the person who earns the most points for a weigh-in on each team will receive 25 points.
  • For each person who reaches a goal on or before the goal date, they earn 1,000 points.

Weigh-ins are on Sundays. You should try to weigh-in on this day if you can, but you will have until Saturday night at midnight each week to weigh in for the previous Sunday. I ask that you certainly don’t make a habbit of weighing in so late, but some people can't always make it on Sunday. Also, if you miss four consecutive weigh-ins, you’ll be removed from the challenge. This challenge depends on participation.

Keep an eye on your dynamically-generated stats, as it will let you know whether you are on track. It will let you know if you should be able to reach your goals, and on what dates, and also how far you have come so far.

When you weigh in, at least specify your current weight and not only the amount lost. In addition, if you do not post your calorie consumption and burn and calories burned with exercise every day, you can post them when you weigh-in for the previous seven days (Sunday-Saturday).

Everyone, I would like some suggestions for how to format the post with all of the statistics. There are a lot of them (I love statistics), but right now I just think they are a bit disorganized. I'm thinking of separating it into categories of statistics, like first teams with number of points and weight lost, then participants in order of points with perhaps starting weight, weight lost, points, etc. Then I could go into BMI and such. I could tabulate the data to make it a bit easier. I don't know if that'd be the best method yet though. There's so much data, I'm even debating one day giving access to a web interface with all of the information (of course still with the vital data here).

By the way, feel free to post your body fat percentage calculations when or if you acquire them. I think I already posted mine. You may post them each week, or as often as you like. 150 points per percentage of fat lost.

Hi all:  Woohoo, I'm down even more.  New all time low at 188.6.  Boy do I love this new scale with decimal points.  And I'm really surprised because I stopped at my sisters house last night and ate not just one but two homemade cheeseburgers AND some mac and cheese.  But I put it all in my book when I got home.  Had something just over 1700 calories which is pretty high for my goals.   And I haven't been doing any formal exercise just rushing around packing and shipping stuff I've sold on ebay.  The only funky thing I did was run into the edge of a door a few days ago in the dark and wacked my self in the forehead.  Maybe I jump started my pituatary gland....  But I wouldn't suggest it as a weight loss method.  Still have a sore spot on my forehead!!!  LOL.  I'll post my total deficits tomorrow with the weigh in.  Easier than doing it everyday to me.

That's great! Except for the sore forehead part. Mmm, I love cheeseburgers and macaroni and cheese. Thing with macaroni, I can never figure out how many calories it is.

Hi All: Weighing in at 189.00 My deficit for the week is 3,598.00. That is actually for 5 days because I didn't keep my log very well on NY eve and NY day so I just figured that's a 0 deficit. Don't think I went over my calorie limit but most of it was alcohol... Do you actually need the calories in, calories burned number or just the deficit? The only actual exercise besides putting one foot in front of the other was moving boxes from the third floor to the basement of my office building - no elevator. That was 25 minutes and according to the site calculator, burned 289 cal. Normally I wouldn't count going up and down the stairs all day but going from basement to 3rd floor and back over and over was definitely a work out. Especially when you're fat and 50!!! LOL.
