I cant join your challenge asi only have 10lbs to lose but i just wanted to say well done on your progress so far. Im assumig the graduation photo was taken after the weight loss as you look great. Good luck with losing the rest.

Also take the 'freak' out your profile name, its negative and you have nothing to be negative about, your getting slimmer and fitter.

Hey thanks! No actually that was taken before my weight loss. People say I hide it well though, even though I was about 90 pounds overweight. My highest ever was actually 258, so I've lost over 20 pounds since then. It feels so great, especially since I've struggled with weight all my life. :)

Oh, the "freak" thing was just a joke. I love classical music. I've removed it though.

Good luck with your own weight loss, even if you don't have to lose that much!

Edited to add: By the way, I think I'm going to upload a new picture today, since it's been a whole month since I started this and everyone says it is noticeable. I'm planning on taking an after picture every month or so.

Hi Dev,

Good luck with the challenge! And congratulations on your weight loss so far and getting control of your body now while you're still young and before that 90 extra pounds is joined by another hundred!

BTW, you look so much like my brother that it's uncanny! Are you sure you aren't from Australia? :P

Hey, thanks. Haha I'm quite sure; I live in the US. :D *checks surroundings*

Hmm, if anyone has suggestions for the challenge, please let me know. Hoping some people are up to joining it even if its' a rather long commitment.

I'm making a program to help me keep track of all the data.

I'm almost done with this program I'm making. I'll be adding all participants and their teams, and then I can easily see how much weight teams have lost in total, and individual people. It comes in handy being a programmer sometimes, lol.

I would love to join your challenge, Can never get enough motivation!

My Stats:

  • Starting weight and date- 214 11/05/07
  • Current weight- 205.4 11/21/07
  • Goal for January 1, 2008- 195
  • Goal for April 1, 2008-185
  • Goal for July 1, 2008 -175
  • Goal for October 1, 2008-165
  • Goal for January 1, 2009-155
  • Ultimate goal— 155lbs -must be no more than 50 pounds less than your current weight
I would ultimately like losing more then 50 lbs though more like 80 lbs....But 50lbs would be a wonderful start!

Hi,

Great! Glad someone's interested. :D

Oh, if you thihnk you can lose more than 50 in a year you can set that as your goal, I just meant you must want to lose at least 50 within that time. :)

First weigh-in will be Sunday, november 25.

I've posted the stats for the current two participants in the first post. I will continue to update it as more people join, and as we weigh-in.

All the information is calculated according to the progress thus far, and will continue to adjust itself as we proceed. I've programmed a script to calculate expected dates, etc.

Those who have joined, please give me ideas for team names. If I receive none, I'll just name them by letter (Team A, Team B, etc).

I'd like to join!

Start weight and date: 199.0 pounds on November 10, 2007

  • Current weight: 191.0 pounds
  • Goal 1: 179 pounds
  • Goal 2: 159 pounds
  • Goal 3: 144 pounds
  • Goal 4: 140 pounds
  • Goal 5: 140 pounds
  • Ultimate goal: 140 pounds

This is a great idea! I would like to give it a try. Here is my info:

  • Starting weight and date- 343 4/15/07
  • Current weight- 280.2 11/21/07
  • Goal for January 1, 2008- 272
  • Goal for April 1, 2008- 252
  • Goal for July 1, 2008 - 232
  • Goal for October 1, 2008- 215
  • Goal for January 1, 2009- 200
  • Ultimate goal— 135lbs

This is kind of silly, but I will suggest the name Team Tortoise - as in the tortoise and the hare, slow and steady wins the race, blah blah... also, I like green. And I like turtles.

This is great! Welcome to the two new participants.

I love that name, denise07! I've added you to Team Tortoise. I may join it myself; I'm not sure yet. That's a good idea though; maybe we should go off the theme of animals. Or just have Team Tortoise and Team Hare. What do you think?

denise07, congratulations on your magnificent weight loss already! I wish you luck attaining your goals.

I've loosened the rules a bit. I do recommend setting sizable goals between 10-25 pounds, but obviously not once one reaches one's goal weight. Also, as long as you need to lose a good bit of weight and are willing to keep up with this for a year, then you can join. Fifty is a good number, though, as any less than that is hard to split into five.

Also, January 1, 2009 falls on a thursday, so says my script. Therefore, our last weigh-in will be on Sunday, January 4, 2009, so we can see who attained their final goals.

Thanks devbanana! I like animal themes.

I have a feeling that there will not be much activity on the boards until Monday, so we may get a lot more joiners then. :)

Hmm, so I'm thinking of two teams in general, but not sure what to call the other. If I call it Team Hare, well who's going to want to be on a team named after the character who usually loses in that story? lol. I like themes, though.

I didn't think about that, that there wouldn't be many until Monday. Oh well, at least we have 4 already, and hopefully more will join later!

When you first post, include the following:

  • Starting weight and date
  • Current weight
  • Goal for January 1, 2008
  • Goal for April 1, 2008
  • Goal for July 1, 2008
  • Goal for October 1, 2008
  • Goal for January 1, 2009
  • Ultimate goal

Hi,

I think you forgot to post your details.

Brandon

I've officially created the teams and randomly assigned people to them. Thanks to denise07 for the idea of the team names!

We're going to go by percentages instead of pounds. The reason is that some don't need to lose as much, so will lose less but may be doing just as well. Percentages are fairer I think.

I have some nice stats in the first post that will be updated as people join and as we weigh-in.

I've removed the reward for reaching the ultimate goal, since those who need to lose a lot more won't be able to reach it within that year, so it's not quite fair.

Please keep the suggestions coming!

Also, of course we're still open to more people joining.X

misscece, welcome to the challenge. I know exactly how it is to always be overweight. Hopefully all of us can lose it and motivate one another.

I am a bit under 50lbs over my goal (48lbs).  I hope thats still ok for me to join. I have been in a massive battle to lose these lbs for what feels like forever.

I wanted to be in this challenge because I don't want to lose the weight in 10 weeks or something like that. I want to take the weight off slowly and keep it off long term. I want to learn how to live life healthfully and really make a change.  Current BMI: 30.3 Goal BMI: 20.9

greyskies, that's no problem at all! I am glad you want to take it off slowly and keep it off longterm.

For those for whom stats aren't showing yet, they will update after the first weigh-in.

I'm hoping we can ultimately have an even number of people since there are two teams. Right now we do.
