Height - Weight - Dress size

Quote  |  Reply

I am 5'11", 161lbs, and generally speaking I am a (UK) size 12 (although bust measurements equal or exceed that of a UK size 14, sadface, but I usually just wear stretchy fabrics with breastspace haha)

I have like, two goals in weight loss - being a size 10 or lower and/or weighing 136lbs, but I have no idea how compatible these two goals. I think the first one is more important, and so if I reach 136 and can't fit into them elusive size 10s ;) I will I suppose have to lose more.

Is anyone of similar stats then? Tall girls especially I don't know how it would work out.

(PS. I think US sizes are two smaller than in the UK, so a UK size 12 is a US size 8? :S)

I don't know how to convert US-UK sizes, but I'm 5'3", 165 pounds, and I'm a US size 10/12 depending on the brand.

Once in a great while (brand specific) I'm a US size 14.

Your BMI is 22.5 - it's slap bang in the normal range.  It's doubtful that you need to lose much weight, and at 136lbs, you would be on the cusp of being underweight.  You need to re-evaluate your goals.

Perhaps you need to tone up, and reduce your measurements and not so much concentrate on weight.

You should always bear in mind that sizes tend to vary so much it not advisable to set a particular size as a goal.  An M&S size 10 is a completely different size to a topshop size 10.  Also, even within the same shop, a particular size sometimes fits the top half but not the bottom.  There is absolutely no guarantee that you will be the size you want to be in any given shop, whatever your weight

I'm 5'9.5", size 8 (US) at 153 lbs. I too feel that my goal size (US 6) is more important to reach than my goal weight (145lbs.) Hopefully when I achieve one I can also achieve the other, if not i'll lose that extra five pounds to fit into those six's. We'll see though, 8 more pounds to go Undecided

A size 10UK is a size 4-6US.  I'm 5'4 and 140 pounds and fit into a size 6US.  Given that you're seven inches taller than me, you can fit into the same dress size as me weighing significantly more (since it's spread over a taller you).  I'd be surprised if losing 10 pounds didn't drop you down to the size 10 you want.  Why not aim for 150 pounds instead of 136?

Demerara -  I know my BMI, and but I have a small frame and thusly my lowest healthy BMI is 18.5, and thats 133lbs, so I'm shooting for healthy but slender... Topshop size 10 is what I'm after, since I will probably not be shopping at Marks and Spencer for a good twenty or thirty years.

I was trying to be helpful - as you asked for help - there's really no need to be a b***h.

I don't appreciate your rudeness.

Ha Ha! Is it bad that I have NO CLUE what my dress size is because I cannot even remember the last time I wore a dress - I don't even own one! lol

5'4",  135 lbs,  dress sz 8 - although some styles need to be a 10 because of 38" bust.   I would like to lose about 9lbs. but no luck so far..  :(

A UK size 10 sounds quite thin for someone of your height, I would imagine a 12 would give you more of an "ideal" looking size. I am 5'3" and a UK 8-10, my friends who are your height are a dress size or two bigger than me and look very slim, much slimmer than me. Equally my sister in law is not quite 5 foot and a size 4-6 and looks only a bit too thin, I would look skeletal.

And I agree that sizes vary massively. Being an 8, 10, or 12 in the UK seems pretty sweet - everything comes in that size, whichever shop you go to. I find I am in XS in some shops already, and I am NOT thin.

And if any bit of your body's going to be disproportionate, breasts is a pretty good one....! You look lovely in your picture :)

Hi Jackmcjack

I'm 5'10 and weigh 149lbs also in the UK!

I did a little celebratory dance in topshop fitting room the other day after fitting into a size 28 (size 10) pair of jeans.  Although I think the practicalities of being able to sit down, walk, breathe and bend at the knee's might require me being a couple of pounds lighter, but I could do them up! Which is a start. I'm just on the cusp of being a size 10 so I don't think your need to go as low as 136 to get there!

At my lightest in my early 20's I was about 136 62kg's and I know I was an 10 then on the bottom and an 8 on the top and to be honest probably slightly too skinny for my frame looking back but that's just my opinion. I have zero boobs though so didn't look very womanly which probably added to how slim i appeared.

My heaviest was 186lbs and I think i'm personally happiest around 143/145.  My wardrobe consists of jeans in sizes 36, down its ridiculous and expensive especially for a fashion addict like me.

You defiantly won't need a 25lb weigh loss for one dress size. I've lost 37lbs and dropped from a UK 16 to a comfortable UK 12 (occasional 10 Smile shop dependent)

I hope this helps a little, good look with with everything.

xxx

I am 5'10" and weigh 141 lbs, but I'm in the US.  I wear a dress size 4 or 6 depending on the store (American sizes of course).
