Hey everyone, for those that remember me and my rantings from the spring/summer, I'm back from my study abroad trip to Greece! For those that don't, basically I am a recovering anorexic who spent a month abroad (mid June- mid July) and used to be 95 pounds at 5'7.5 (eeek!). I was weighed yesterday and was 108!!!! I actually gained weight in Greece and am back to running on occasion (as long as my weight gets up I have another marathon planned for early winter) and I feel so much sexier. No one thought I would gain in Greece but I decided to throw all that calorie counting crap out the window and eat what I wanted to- and I guess all the olive oil and bread did me good :). I definitely have more weight to gain- but I'm feeling so much stronger and I love not worrying about calories anymore. So many of you on here have been such an inspiration to me and I'm glad to see new people on the board trying to gain as well. It's tough, my stomach still gets all distended after I eat but I'm learning to love new foods again (white chocolate peanut butter anyone?). I have to keep gaining until I get my period (any advice on that is welcomed!!!) but I was a healthy marathon runner at 115-117 so I'm going to reach that point then see how I'm doing, although it would be good to pack on some more muscle. RAWR ;)! I kind of binge on occasion to eat enough to gain on days that I run but thats my only problem now (any advice on this is also welcomed!).
Keep gaining, everyone!!!
Hi there! Welcome back. :)
I'm new here, but also a runner on a weight gain mission.
Isn't it funny how sometimes it's when people say something CAN'T be done that you get determined to prove them wrong?
Way to go doing just that in Greece! Just think what you'll be proving when you rock your next race at a strong and sturdy weight! Lean and STRONG and SEXY, right??!
It's not even just the immediate results, but how much you stand to gain [no pun intended] as a long term runner--full potential rather than an eventual breakdown [which is sure to happen if you remain even partially underweight--the lack of period means something is WRONG and the body is heading down the drain--certainly won't hold up as an athlete].
In any case, today is one of those stomach wacko-crazy days for me that leaves me trying to sneak in 2000 cals now [11pm] to try and stay over my 3500 minimum at least. I'm going for a steady 4000 by August and will DO what I put my mind to!
Rock on, teammate!
Welcome back! Love to hear more about your trip to Greece if you feel like telling it! Congratulations on gaining some weight!!
Congratulations and keep up the good work!! I was just in Greece for a couple weeks and everyone was worried that I was going to spoil my time there by restrict but it's empowering to prove everyone wrong and let yourself indulge. It's an amazing place and can only be fully enjoyable when you try all of that delicious food. Not to mention, its impossible to feel guilty when you eat all of eat since the Greeks have the some of the healthiest diets in the world.
As for advice for gaining-I'd try some frozen yogurt (they have those places that serve organic healthy ones). The plain flavors might just remind you of the thick yogurt in Greece:] Good luck!
Hi Toridl! :D Welcome back! I'm glad you had a good time in Greece, and congrats on the gaining and feeling healthier again. I'm there with you on the getting distended front I'm afraid (having to take in 3000+ now, ech) and have been prescribed peppermint oil capsules for it. o: Have you tried the tea? I know that can help bloating too.
Now that I'm steadily gaining my doctor and parents have relaxed on the exercise front a bit more, and are encouraging me with strength training and small bursts of cardio as long as I eat it back. I've considered getting into jogging and running, but I'm still an asthmatic so it'll likely be a bit of a struggle for me. :s I'm learning to ride a bike, though. Woop woop. xD I wish you lots of luck with ideally running that marathon, though!
White chocolate peanut butter? ;________; Waaah! We don't have that over here. I wouldn't be able to trust myself with it anyway. I binge BIG TIME on PB, so all the jars are hidden from me. x_x I haven't had white chocolate anything in a while, though. Have had yet to find a good dairy-free one. :\
It's good to have you back! :D
hi toridl!! welcome back-greece, thats awesome! i love greek food but havent had it in forever bc im scared of the huge cal count in the things i like, gyro, horiatiki pizza and horiatiki salad--so good!!!
very happy that you gained there despite everyone's doubts, good for you!! you are on your way and as TUFFSTUFF said, youll be stronger and faster as a runner. i was never a runner, never will be, i was never an athlete of any sort, lol.
white chocolate PB, is it by the PB co? i have their cinnamon raisin swirl PB-it is out of this world! im thinking of trying the white choc but ive had the dark choc 1 and it was actually too rich so im hesitant to get the other one.
keep posting!
I definitely think setting goals is great, although 115 seems very low still! However, let nothing stop you now! You definitely will be stronger and healthier, and even run faster once you continue to gain!
Good luck...you know I'm always here for you!
Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone! I have a weigh in tomorrow (woo!) so we shall see how that goes!!
Hey! welcome back and congratulations! I would love to go to greece! And they're supposed to have the best diets. I usually try to include a lot of olive oil and I love greek yogurt!
I actually was weighed this morning and am also 108 at 5'8! We can be weight gain buddies! I had gained to over 110 before going to france but apparently even all the gelato and pasta and bread couldn't balance out the walking we did. Oh well, i"m back now and eating like crazy again. I also have calorie needs that are well above 3000 and I don't even run at the moment although I'd love to start that and also get back into bike riding and martial arts. I used to be so active!
Keep up the good work! I'd love to hear more about greece! :)
Thanks, lala for the idea about peppermint oil caps, I bought some and can tell a difference!
And gibbit, I'm glad your trip went well too! Yes, lets be weight gain buddies! We can do this!!!! Oh and I am now in love with gelato and bread as well :)
