Hi,

I'm new, just found this site ten minutes ago and am already thrilled and really hope it will help.

I'm 25 yrs old, I just got diagnosed recently with ADD-Inattentive type. I was put on 30mg of Vyvanse (a stimulant) and was already on 300mg of Wellbutrin for a previous diagnosis of depression. I have -always- been very skinny and have -never- developed good eating habits and generally have never gotten into exercising either. I'm amazed I've been in relatively good health for as long as I have.

I live a pretty sedentary life. I am a teacher but I work in three schools, so I do some travelling.

However, one of the issues is that with the way my brain works I sometimes will get very involved in my high intensity work and -forget- to eat. Period. So that is really where the bad habits come in, and when I do eat I generally do not eat healthily.

Recently this is even more of a problem. The vyvanse has completely cut out my ability to feel hunger, and I have taken to eating even less, until I get home and realize I have not eaten.

I got on the scale yesterday just to see and I'd lost 8 lbs.

So I panicked a little and am really trying now to gain weight. My muscles are basically non-existant which also worries me, so I would like to start working on balance, scheduled nutritional choices and eating throughout the day (small meals will work better for me than trying to do 3 large ones), and to start exercising to get back my muscle tone.

I -know- myself and I know I am motivated now but it won't last and I will need lots of encouragement and motivation to just get myself to stick to it. I really hope I can do this, because I'm starting to really worry about my health.

Any help/advice is appreciate.

Hi. Just like you make sure to take your medicine and not forget food has to be the same way. With out proper nutrition your body will not absorb meds as well sometimes too. A healthy physical body for a healthy mind. You may see when you are at a more nurished state your add is better too. You said you lost 8 pounds so what is your weight and height? How much do you think you are eating now? I would encourage you to start increasing a couple hundred calories every few days till like many here state at least 2500 or more. Try to eat every few hours and accept that at first you will feel full and uncomfortable since your body is not used to eating. Remember your goals and hopefully you can use that as continued motivation

Hi,

My weight was around 133 - 135 lbs for 5'11'' (I'm rather tall) which was thin but ok, now it's working at 124.6. It's not a serious problem but it's one I want to get on top of before it gets worse, and it's a good idea to start getting into healthy lifestyles at any rate.

I've wanted for some time to start taking better care of myself in terms of keeping up with nutrition and actually exercising. Hopefully the wake up call of actually seeing my weight jump down like that will get me going. I'm pretty motivated as it stands now, but it's only the day after I saw the change.

I do generally remember to take the meds. I just don't remember to eat. -_-

I'm working on starting a nutrition plan and I do, luckily, have people around me to help if I am really serious about it. Lots of changes in my life right now so the stress, low blood sugar and not getting great sleep amounts are all factors making the add a lot worse.

Right now I'm focusing on being happy that I'm even making this step, and that I actually ate breakfast! (Even if it was just a bagel and cream cheese from Dunkin's).

Oh, and thank you for your reply! And as of right now I -was- going basically all day, more than one day in a row, without eating. Until maybe evening-time I realized I didn't really eat anything or maybe had a bite of something, feel guilty and concerned, and go eat a snack or -maybe- something that counts as a meal. I've done better this week, hope it increases. I don't know -anything- about calories or nutrition beyond I should be eating whole grains over white bread/etc, fruits, vegetables, and lean meats.

And drinking water! Another thing I need to start doing MUCH more of.

I did also buy yesterday some Fish Oil supplements because I read many places it helped somewhat with ADD and I also bought a One A Day Active Mind and Body specifically for Women, multi-vitamin. If I can stay on top of those that'll help.

Again, I know next to nothing about nutrition and have NEVER had good habits with it. And my muscles at this point are VERY weak so exercise/fitness is a must as part of this new direction.

Yes I realize I'm posting a reply to my reply.

I'm currently looking into getting a Wii Fit. I figure if I have it in the house I'm much more likely to be consistent about fitness. I really really hate going to the gym by myself and do not have anyone to go with.

Get a digital watch and set it to go off every 3 hours! THEN EAT :)  Girl, at 5'11" and 120s you are too thin. From one tall girl to another ;)
