Hello!!!

Well, here I go again!

I'm 45 and I've been smoking a pack to 1 1/2 packs per day since I was 14.  Sometimes on the weekend, that would go up to 2 packs.  In January I had had it.  I started on Chantix and was able to stay quit for 2 months.  I was only taking the Chantix 1/2 pill once per day because I didn't want the terrible side effects.  Mid March I quit taking the Chantix.   Then I got overly upset with my hubby and grabbed one of his cigarettes.  Now I'm a closet smoker smoking 2 cigarettes on my way to work and occasionally sneaking one of his later in the evening.  I restarted taking the Chantix but it isn't working as well this time.  I'm going to continue to take it though and try harder.

During the day, while I'm at work I don't think about smoking, I don't crave cigarettes, it's like I've never smoked.  Once I get into that truck to drive home though it's a different story.  And I don't think it's because I crave them.  I think I smoke them because they are there.  Going home from work I don't want one.  Once I get home I don't want one unless I get lonely, then I'll go out to the garage where he is smoking like a chimney.  He tried Chantix but became suicidal so he had to quit.

This weekend......I'm going out of town with my older sister who thinks I am still a quitter so I won't smoke.  I'm hoping this will get me over the hump and crawl out of that damn closet.

Well I hear ya!

I started smoking about 13 years ago.  it went from a pack a week to almost a pack a day on the weekends.  I never really had a reason to quit.  I didnt feel guilty and I enjoyed it alot!

I "quit" in November my husband and I we used the patch.  He needed to quit for medical reasons and I just decided to join him out of support.  well It s april and we are both closet smokers now that fuel each other......

we were going weeks without a smoke now we seem to share one almost everyday.  We have talked about going back on the patch again but it seems silly that smoking less then one a day would require it.  And we both agree that since we have come so far without totally starting up again it would be a waste.  It seemed easier in the winter when it was so cold you didnt want to go outside and we never smoked in the house or had the benefit of a garage.

But man the thought of not having more and more is getting worse!

Good luck with your weekend!  I do know how your feeling!

Hi Susie,

I am just browsing the different forums. Since I started it took me a while to find my way around.

Here you are 11 days ago writing about an issue that my husband and I are trying to get  under control as well. It scared me when you said that your husband got suicidal on Chandix. We smoke since we are teenagers as well and are "garage smokers" like you. Luckily we never smoked in the house or in the cars, which makes it easier. The fact that a pack of cigarrets is over $9.00 here is not sitting well with us either. Fred lost his job and we want to be really careful how we spend our money. We are talking daily about quitting. I don't smoke all day when in the office and don't even miss it. I can do without but my husband has a hard time just like yours. This is not helping the situation. I heard about acupuncture or hypnoses.

How are you doing with everything? One battle at a time right?      ;
