Hello from Mike

Just wanted to introduce myself.  I am 6' 2", 28 years old, and weigh 304 lbs.  I work in public safety (firefighter/police officer) and  being in good physical shape is important in this line of work.  I have had a steady increase in my weight since I graduated high school(195lbs).  I maintained 280 for the past three years or so and the last year have struggled to stay under 300.  I started counting calories and exercising on December 26th 2008 and lost from 310 back down to 280 and was unable to drop any more.  After several weeks at 280 I became discouraged and quit my program.  I am now at 304 and cant take it anymore.  I just found out I have a baby on the way and want to be able to keep up.  My biggest weakness is food in general.  I dont know when to stop(or just dont want to stop).  I eat because I get bored or frustrated with something life has dealt.  My goal weight is to be in the neighborhood of 200 lbs.  I would like to reach in 12-14 months. @ pounds a week doesnt seem to unreasonable.  Let me know of anything I can do to help me reach my goals.  I look forward to weighing in on Sundays.  I havent figured out adding friends and all that stuff but any replys will be appreciated.

omg thats so funny! I saw your journal entry on the side of the page, and read your forum post and sent you a message saying you should come join this group!

...but you made this post an hour before I sent you a message :)

So, I'm not going to repeat myself - welcome

Welcome.  I am new as well.  I also work in public safety, however on the flip side of the radio as a dispatcher.  So I know how taxing and stressful your job can be!  Add a new baby to that and whew!!  (Congrats)

I have the same problem with food.  Like it too much and just eat because it tastes good or I'm bored.  I have found that taking my lunch with me to work has helped keep me from just eating mindlessly.  And if I am still hungry, I keep healthy lo-cal snacks that I limit myself on.  Biggest thing so far for me is eating slow... don't let the fact that you don't know when your next call is going to be make you scarf down your food. Drink lots of water and stay hydrated.   Unfortunately that is all I have to offer but its good to know I have a "public safety buddy"

Jes

Hello jkissbair,

It is nice to meet you.  I just love food more than my body can handle as well.  Your ideas sound really good.  Now, if I can just do the same thing at home as I do at work!
