HELP!! All sprained ankle, and no running makes Kate a dull girl!!

I need some help here! I was going down the stairs like a smart person (in the dark) and ended up stepping on my ankle rather than on my foot. That was a week ago, and the swelling has finally gone down, but it still hurts pretty good, and is pretty badly brused. My problem is that I have no idea what kind of cardio I can do now! I have gained a couple lbs (This came in threes...sprained ankle, period(totally overdid calories for two weeks) and I came down sick and am just getting over it) UGH!!! I still do upper body..weights, and such, and tried to go walking a couple days ago with my brace, but screwed up my ankle even more. What can I do? How many calories do I need to cut because of this? I am 5'5", 150 lbs, and use to be really active...any Ideas? Any would be greatly apperciated!!! Thanks!!!

Swimming would be the simplest solution. You can burn crazy cals if you just spend an hour freestyle. You can also turn any upper body workout into cardio by reducing the weight, and increasing reps and speed.

Swimming is good exercise. But Cycling is what got my through my injury. I sprained my ankle 4 weeks ago, went to physiotherapy and they told me to cycle after 1 week. I have been doing the strengthing exercises for my ankle and cycled everyday. It is a great way to burn calories and strengthen, without setting back your recovery. Hope this helps!

Hey there,

My name is Kate too and I am recovering from ankle surgery. Before I had ankle surgery I wasn't able to do much but I'd recommend cycling. It's very low impact on the ankle and worked very well for me. Also, swimming is great cardio and no strain on the ankle.

As far as calories, we're the exact same weight and height and I'm completely sedintary due to this surgery so I'd recommend the same amount of calories as me- 1175/day or something in that ball field. It's worked for me so far!

Hope this helps and good luck!
