Help with antibiotics

Quote  |  Reply

I'm currently taking antibiotics and have to take two twice a day, on an empty stomach...

By doing this I normally take two when I wake up and two before I go to bed. My problem is with the two I'm taking when I wake up as it means I have to skip breakfast. I can't eat when I get to work (It's banned!) and my lunch break starts at a ridiculous 11.30am - so I'm eating lunch pretty early and therefore can't take them later in the morning

I don't want to continue skipping breakfast as I know it's the worst thing somebody trying to lose weight can do. I'm on these tablets for the next 10 months at least so it's not a short term thing. Has anybody else had a problem like this and if so what did you do??

Well obviously if you are on a 10 month course of antibiotics you are definitely under a physician's guidance. So, best to check with her or him on these concerns.

Usually an empty stomach does not require more than about 2 hours from the last time you ate. This means that you could take your antibiotics mid-afternoon and then right before you go to bed (assuming it's 11 pm or so).

Or, you could set your alarm for something like 4 am, take the pills and return to sleep. Then get up and have breakfast as usual (assuming it's a couple of hours later).

Furthermore, with such a long course of antibiotics, discuss with your physician whether you need probiotic support through that time.

And finally, while you may be wanting to lose weight just be kind to yourself because broad spectrum antibiotics (what you are on) are hard on the body. Is your doctor aware that you are attempting to lose weight as well?

Best wishes.

I second what Hedgren says,  but add also that antibiotic can also interfer with many birth control pills so if that is an issue you will need a back up method.

I just finished a month and half on tetracycline and I found if I have an early breakfast and then take it half way between breakfast and lunch.
