Help - Does Anyone Know of a Good and Dependable Scale??

Quote  |  Reply

Good Morning Posters!

I need help in finding a good scale.  I have a digital and it just makes no sense at all.  I have to weigh myself three times just to get an idea of which weight I should go with.  I step on and off and on and off and on and off and the weight can be as much as 1.5 lbs difference.  AARRGH!!!!  I understand our weight fluxuates, but really 1.5 lbs in seconds.  I'm willing to invest, but don't want the same problem with my new purchase.  Any suggestions??  And...thanks in advance.

I've heard analog scales are much more accurate than digital. But my Soehnle has given me consistent digital readings every day.

I am currently very interested in getting a new Salter 9106 Glass Body Analyzer scale which gives you readings for water, fat, bone density, and muscle mass percentage.

Around $40.

I've had Health Meter (I think that's the brand).  Both were kind of flakey, but were fairly close.

I had been eyeballing the glass Weight Watcher scale by Conair that calculates body fat, water weight and serveral other things.  So when my last scale said I gained 20 pounds in one week and got really wacky I went ahead and got.  It weight to the tenth of a pound and unlike my other digital scales it gives me the same weight time after time.

Where I weigh in once a month it is usually right on the money.

I've had a health o meter physician balance beam scale for 25 years now.  It's always accurate and I've never had a problem with it.  What I always hated about traditional bathroom scales is you could step on and off several times and get different readings every time.  With mine, you get the same reading every time.  It's always right on target with my doctor's scales.   It's big and it's not a pleasure to move, but I wouldn't have anything else.  Everytime someone goes on a diet in my family, they come to my house to weigh in  :-)   You can buy them at Amazon for around $150 right now, which is the same price I paid for it 25 years ago!

I went to the store the other day looking for a scale myself... there were about 20 different options and I thought I might try a few out to see what was best... Um yea, I ended up NOT buying ANY because each one gave me a different weight!!! It was ridiculous! They fluctuated between 6 pounds! Ha Ha! I don't really trust electric scales.... I like the one with the dial because I know when it's on ZERO! Oh I also like the scales at doctor's offices, but I am NOT shelling out the bucks for those bad boys - plus what an eye-sore! ha ha!!! If you invest and get a pricey one, I am sure it will work nicely!

I bought an analog from Target because I thought it would be more accurate.  The problem with adjusting them as they deviate from zero is this: it's not a simple addition problem.  My scale got to the point where it would tell me I was, say, 160, but default would be 20.  When I recentered it to 0, it would tell me I was 159.  Try explaining that.

ConsumerSearch really liked Tanita, but they are pricey, and I don't want to waste my money on body fat composition, water weight, etc. when scientists have found no real accuracy.  They also recommended the Health-O-Meter HDL820KD-18, but Amazon won't ship it for 1-3 months....  Does anyone know if it's comparable to the HDL820-81?  It only has one review that's not so favorable, but it looks exactly the same.

oh oh! i just ordered offline:

it sounds fantastic and the reviews on amazon sound awesome! i should be getting in in the next couple days - i'm super excited!

Yea, I would like to know where to get an accurate, digital preferably, scale. The one I have is analog, and it will weigh me several pounds apart, right in a row. It's so frustrating.

Do NOT get the Weight Watchers (WW) scale. It sucks :S

Taylor sucks too, btw.

Prevention Mag tests bathroom scales.

it's old, and some models are  out  of date, but I got the new version of the Homedics one and it's GREAT.  I can step on and get a weight instantly, or go to my profile thing  and get my fat %, water weight etc etc.
