Of all my habits most detrimental to my weight loss, number one is weighing myself daily, or actually, multiple times a day.  I can say "no cake" more easily than "no scale."  I hop on there, and I get discouraged when I don' t lose every day.  I know it's bad to weigh every day, and experts suggest once a week.  Any tips on how to break this?

Now, I know some people are gonna say, "just don't do it - it's just a matter of will power."  But hey, just not eating a piece of cake is also a matter of will power, and it ain't that easy.

I've gotta nip this obsessing in the bud.

Ask someone to hide your scale from you. Or stuff it in your closet or a cabinet, and don't take it out until the week is up. Tell yourself it is worth waiting a week, because then you'll be able to see a nice decrease in numbers, instead of water retention weight which will drive you crazy. Try to distract yourself, stay busy, don't let your mind drift to the scale. Tell yourself it's just a number, it doesn't matter, I know I'm eating healthy so the weight will eventually come off. Tell yourself the scale doesn't properly show your weight..you can lose inches and not a pound, you can gain a pound but it's due to muscle. You are worth more than a stupid number on a machine! Don't let it control your life. Life is for living, life isn't for fitting into a number range on a machine.
I used to weigh myself every day and sometimes multiple times a day too.  My depressed feelings were what made me stay off until after a week.  Sometimes I do sneek a peek though.

I weigh myself 2 times a day. In the morning and before the gym. It's just to see how much I gain/lose during the day.

I don't take it seriously unless I weigh less in the morning.

"You're a person, not a number."
I am the same way.  I see a scale and I get on it.  You know what is really hard.....when you go away somewhere and there is no scales.  My next door neighbour says she can just hear me telling my husband to go to Walmart so I can weight myself.

We should call this the scale obsession.  I am going to try to get on the scale every other day to start.

Good luck
It is important to weigh yourself at the same time everyday.  I weigh in right when I wake up in the morning before I jump in the shower.  That way, my body is in the same condition everytime I hit the scale.  Your weight will fluctuate quite a bit during the day ( up tp several pounds) so it is important to establish a set time with the same conditions.  You won't lose weight everyday, but who cares.  I log into this site, and record my weight daily.  Over the last couple of months, I have a definite trend downward!  So if you have to weigh yourself everyday, don't fight it... just do it at a consistent time each time you weigh.  Good luck!
I don't keep a scale at home.  The ONLY scale I weigh myself on is at the gym.  If I don't go work out, I don't get to see how much I weigh.  Keeps me on a regular gym schedule!

I recently heard about a study that showed weighing yourself daily actually HELPS in the weight loss and keeping it off (wish I could cite it but it was on a radio program)- but like someone else mentioned you need to do it the same time every day like first thing in the morning before eating or drinking and after using the bathroom and nude so that it isn't swayed by clothing or whatever else. But don't weigh yourself after that! There's no point because of all the random fluctuations.

I do this and some mornings I weigh more. It happens. But that just pushes me to be sure to get in my exercise that day. And days when I weigh less I think "good - it's working!" and that gets me to keep exercising and sticking with smart food choices.

If you enter your weight in the site daily it makes a great chart you can look at to see your overall progress over time. That's what's important - your progress over time. But knowing how I'm starting each morning helps me to stay motivated.
