Help Me Out With Calories in a Deep Dish Pizza?

Quote  |  Reply
So, I'm going out to dinner tonight, and I'm not too worried about it, but the pizza is usually a 12" deep dish pizza, cut into about 16 squares. I'm wondering what you guys think I should log this as, because I'm not quite sure... its a local place, so its not on here, and nutritional information isn't online. Now, depending on how hungry I am, I'll only eat 3-5 pieces, and I've got at least 700 calories left til I reach maintenance, but I'd still like to know. Thanks!

I just saw something on our local NBC affiliate station about deep dish pizza vs fast food burgers.

A small personal pan size deep dish pizza (with pepperoni, sausage etc) was about 1200 calories.

They said to go w/ the cheeseburgers at around 300 each.

If you eat 3-5 pieces of deep dish you will def be over 1000 calories just for that meal. Can you get a salad and only eat 1 piece?!

If you have a food scale, you can weigh the piece and apply this nutrition info

Don't know the specific calorie count but I think 2 pieces will either fulfill it or move you slightly over.  3-5 I think you will go way over.

Here are calorie counts for Pizza Hut's version of deep dish pizza.

Ummm....I would say a lot! Deep dish pizza isn't the healthiest option. Can you order a thin crust version?

Well, I have about 700 calories to spend on dinner... I think its most similar to uno's pizza. The larger size that they have (uno's) is about 1600 calories for the whole thing. If my pizza is cut into 16th's, that makes each square approximately 100 calories. Do you think this sounds right? What am I missing?

Edit: Ah, I see now. The Uno's Pizza is about 10", and has 6 X 580 servings.  I don't know where calorie-count gets some of these serving sizes... If I use Uno's as a template, I get each piece to be around 220 calories, in which case, I could eat 3, 4 max. However, Uno's crust is certainly buttery, and flaky, and this pizza is not.

MMMMM pizza!

Sorry couldn't help myself......

Check out several pizza places on-line as opposed to what's on calorie-count. Pizza Hut has all of their listings on their website. Try several other chains and then use an average. Google the name of the pizza place and see if they have a website.

Pizza has way more calories than most people imagine, and it's so easy to eat a lot of it as I've never found pizza to be very filling.

My best guess is that if you eat 2 pieces you'll be close to 700 calories and if you eat more than 2 you'll be over. I'd go with eating no more than 2 and getting a side salad with light dressing.

I love pizza, it's one of my pitfalls if I'm not careful.  One thing I try and do when we go out for pizza it to 1. drink a big glass of water before we start eating and 2. have a salad before the pizza comes.  If they have a salad at this restaurant I would definitely try and have one so you don't eat too much pizza.  Maybe after a salad and a lot of water you could stay around 2 pieces of pizza.  Funny that you posted this today, we went for pizza last night and I did really well, I was proud of myself.  Good luck and enjoy the night out!
Usually a 10" or 12" pizza is cut into 12 squares...either way, if a 10" deep dish has around 3500 calories then 1/4 of it is 875 (and this is w/out any toppings other than cheese).  I would log each slice at 300 calories each plus any toppings...which is why I go for thin crust, thank goodness...
Wow pizza has a bunch of calories, now I know why I haven't had one in over 4 months. . .
