Help -- CC vs. Restaurant's Provided Nutritional Info?

Quote  |  Reply

Hello! I looked up the salad place, Salad Works, that I will be going to tonight for dinner.  It's website lists the nutritional info for the salad I would like to order and it is significantly lower (229 cal diff) than what is on CC.

I noticed CC info is based on a higher serving size (grams).  I'm not sure if they offer different size salads and maybe this is the cause, but SW's website only has one set of nutr. info for each salad.  The dressing info is the same on both sites, it's just the salad info that is different.

Which numbers do you think I should I go by?

I guess it depends on how tight of a calorie budget you are on.  I usually go by the higher number just to be sure.

If it were me, I'd always choose the higher calorie amount.  This way you can alter the rest of the foods you eat throughout the day to make up for it.  If it turns out to be lower, then you will eventually get your reward on the scale.

I think it all depends on the type of salad.  If it has nuts, cheese and/or dried fruit I would use the higher number or at least get those items on the side for portion control (especially the nuts).  I pretty much know what an ounce of each looks like and would go that route (if meat on it, I would just ask the server how much they put on it).

You all might want to be aware of this.  A bunch of nationwide news affilifates hit a bunch of the restraunts serving so-called "healthy" choices.  They went into the resaurants, bought the items, and shipped them off to the lab for analysis.  What they found out is that many of the "healthy" menu items are actually worse than some of the regular menu items.  Things that are supposed to have 5g of fat have 50.  Things that are supposed to be under 500 calories are actually over 1000.
