Help?! Chai Tea Latte?!

Quote  |  Reply

OMG, I was at my fave coffee shop last night and didn't want a caffeine heavy drink or just plain tea. I decided to go with a small nonfat Chai Tea Latte. It was absolutely delicious. However, now I am finding it seems to have a lot of sugar.

I am not going to have one of these every day... twice a week, maybe, but I wanted to get an opinion on what would be better? The nonfat Chai Tea Latte or a sugar free nonfat vanilla latte? About the same?

Nevermind, pretty sure I found the answer to my question. Looks like the chai tea latte will be a once a month thing!

you could go to starbucks and get a tea misto which is steamed milk with tea bags so there is no sugar. It tastes great with sugar-free vanilla. :)

If you'd like to make your own chai lattes at home, I know that Oregon Chai markets a sugar free concentrate which you may be able to find at a supermarket near you or have special ordered.  You can also save calories and grams of sugar if you use unsweetened Almond Breeze or Almond Dream [which you may find at Whole Foods or your local health food store] in place of cow's milk!  One 8 ounce serving of skim milk has 90 calories and 12 grams of sugar versus 30-40 calories [depending on brand] and no sugar in 8 ounces of unsweetened almond milk!

Hmm, thanks for the suggestions. I actually don't even like cow's milk (unless it's in coffee, latte, or whatever). I drink Silk Vanilla light, but the dumb coffee shops, at least starbucks don't seem to have the light version! I will have to ask my local coffee shop what alternatives they have. I saw Oregon Chai in the coffee shop this morning too so maybe they have a sugar free one.

I was desperate one day and used my Silk Light Chocolate with my coffee and it was alright.  I'm sure it would have tasted better with Vanilla though. lol

Mmmmmmmmmm! I make these at home cause it's so easy and way cheaper. Just boil some milk and let a chai teabag steep for 3-5 minutes. Add the sweetener of your choice (mine is splenda) and voila!

Yeah I think I am going to check out making my own... perhaps with a combo of the sugar free oregon chai and boiling vanilla light soy.

Chai doesnt only come in premixed stuff - its a tea bag with 0 calories. Make it from that and you'll be cheerin

Hey guys, I make chai tea latte all the time at home myself. I visited India a while ago and learned how to make it and became addicted ever since! I heat up the milk slowly and add some chopped ginger, cloves, cinnamon, cardomom, sometimes a little nutmeg. Make sure you put the ginger in first and brew it for a while if you like that spicy ginger flavour. Then if I want the tea taste I add the black tea, if not I leave it. Add sugar/vanilla/sweetener as you like. Delicious, cheap and healthy!
