Help! no coffee = migraines

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone.

I dont drink a lot of coffee or caffeine in general but I noticed the last month every weekend I get a headache which turns into a migraine. But during the week I am fine. I just saw my otologist (ear, nose, throat doc) and he said my sinuses are fine so my migraines are not triggered by that. He referred me to an neurologist but I dont want to go that route. Just more testing and a whole lot of nothing results (the otologist referred me to an allergist and about 200 shots later im not allergic to anything just sensitive.... which i knew before that....)

I talked to my husband and he said it might be that on the weekends I dont drink coffee. During the week i drink about 1 cup (8-10 oz) of coffee in the morning and water throughout the day. On the weekends i mostly drink water. I would like to slowly stop drinking coffee but i dont want to trigger a migraine at work. What should I do?

I'm the same... I drink one small coffee in the morning and one small coffee in the afternoon, and if I miss either of them, my head feels like it is going to explode. I think some of us are just more sensitive to caffeine than others.

I heard that a good way to quit is to decrease your coffee consumption by no more than a third for a week, then another third a week later, and so on. I have not given it a try yet because I feel so dependent on those 2 small cups, but I would like to quit it for good one days soon...

Good luck.

Quit.

Just quit cold turkey.
Keep lots of Aleve, Tylenol, and Advil handy.
DO NOT use Excedrin IF it has caffeine in it.

You will most likely be in pain for a few days.
Push through it. It's worth it.
Let the head aches remind you why you are quiting to begin with.
Every time you want a coffee after that ... don't ask if you want it to help you feel better. Instead ask yourself if you're willing to suffer through the headaches of 'getting sober' again in order to get that short brief fix of feeling better.

I suffered through the cold turkey quit for five days of headaches and nervousness. When it cleared ... I finally started to feel like me again. I'm clear headed everyday now. Everytime I get the urge for a coffee, with sweets, and TWO extra shots ... I ask myself "are the headaches really worth it?" NO! I sure miss coffee BUT I love being clear headed even more.

Get on the wagon and stay there Sadie.
You can do it.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
