Help! Craving Hangover food...
Yeah so.. it's kind of a long story but the company I work for got acquired yesterday and let's just say it was a LONG day. Decided to kick back with some vino with my fiance (he had off today... I am at work!), and sort of overdid it. Not too bad, but to the point where all I want right now is HUGE GREASY SOMETHINGWICH with cheese fries or something.
I think I'll make it through without succumbing. I'm certainly not letting extra wine calories from yesterday result in even more extra calories today. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I could do / eat to settle my stomach and kick my craving, but not put me over?
So far today I've had fiber one cereal, an apple, and a laughing cow wedge... (Which I wished was a grilled cheese).
Thanks!
Some slow-release carbohydrates should help. When you're hungover part of the problem is that your blood-sugars are low and you need energy fast. Fried food like chips will do that of course... which is why it's quite an attractive hangover food! I don't think you should skimp on the quantities or try to tough it out but go for something with plenty of substance and lots of fibre.... a jacket potato with baked beans, maybe or a big wholemeal roll with plenty of filling. (Some cheese, why not?) Oh yes... and drink lots of fluids.
Yay, thanks Gi-Jane :)
That baked potato idea sounds AWESOMEEEEE. Maybe with some chili, yummmm!
I'm on my 4th glass of water, so I think I'm going to survive this, hahaha.
Girl, I am in the same place right now. I knew I was going out last night so I burned extra calories, but today I am AT WORK and surrounded by fatty stuff that I want want want so so so bad. Ya know what I did? I went to Mickey D's and got an egg mcmuffin and an OJ for breakfast. Satisfied the greasy and the carbs at about 450 calories, and it started the day. Sometimes I think you need to give your body what it wants. you can get something greasy as long as it's not a trough full of fat. I plan on having healthier stuff for the rest of the day (after McDonald's I can't help but crave the good stuff anyway) and by the end of the day, I should still be in my calorie range.
And on the water thing, chug, chug, chug. Your body needs water more than anything else right now. It'll help with the cravings too. And if you still feel like gorging on cheese fries, just tell yourself, hey, I'm really tired and dehydrated. I don't need this stuff. Because after today, that horible feeling that both of us feel right now will be gone.
Get a veggie burger, a light whole wheat roll or light wheat bread, fat free cheese or half a piece of regular cheese with whatever toppings. And for fries cut up a potato into strips like fries sprinkle them with a little olive oil and roast them in the oven.
Yummmm I know what I am having for dinner now! I do that veggie "burger" a lot - w miracle whip, ketchup and mustard, lettuce tomato onion, veggie cheese... AHHH I wish I weren't in the office haha.
Lunch is still up in the air but dinner is veggie burger for sure!
hangover makes me crave for greasy food
I went out one night and had alot to drink. The next morning my family went to the diner and all I wanted was taylor ham (canadian bacon), fried egg and cheese on a roll.
I always had a V-8 on hangover days. I like the spicy hot kind but I don't know if everybody would be good with that on an squirrely stomach. I'm not suggesting to have a V8 and not eat, but maybe adding a V8 to your meal or even as a snack might settle the squirrely feeling a bit.
I always found that eggs and toast made me feel better. Eggs are not too bad calorie wise, and I add a little light butter to my toast. Hope you feel better!
Thanks, All!
Feeling great now after 8 glasses of water, 4 hot decaf teas, a piece of chicken (with cheese and red sauce... a little guilty but not really, it was small and i tossed the roll out), and some salad.
I love all of your suggestions :)
Okay, so now I had a hot dog for lunch. So hey - you're doing way better than I am.
This is going to sound really gross, but sushi (rolls, not sashimi) always fixes me after a hangover. It's also pretty good for you!
