Where can I get help with diabetic meal plans?
Asked by slyfox43 on Apr 24, 2009 in Health Conditions

I just found out I have diabetes, and so I'm trying to eat like I should,  but I'm having trouble knowing what to eat.  I really need help with this.

Answer

Please consult with a registered dietitian for help with your diabetic diet and overall diabetes management as well.  The service is a covered benefit under Medicare, most health insurance and Medicaid too.  Ask your doctor to recommend and refer you to an RD.  The doctor probably has preferred referral networks, but, if not, you can find an RD at the American Dietetic Association website, where they also note if they accept medical insurance.  Meanwhile, read about diabetic meal plans from the Guide to Diabetes at About.com.
