ok so i'm 13 and trying to gain some healthy weight, what do you think about this diet plan?

breakfast- fruit (most likely a lot of honeydew and cantelope) with an ensure plus shake (they have like 350 cal and are supposted to make you gain weight... the rest of the nutrition info is here http://ensure.com/products/index.aspx)

lunch would be the same as breakfast (a lot of fruit with another shake)

dinner would be something fairly healthy that the rest of my family is eating

without much exersie how much weight do you think i could gain and do you think i would get fat? any suggestions?

Hun, that doesn't sound very healthy to me, and you're likely to only get around 1500 absolute max from that diet - which means if anything, you will lose weight.

Ensure is only meant for people who are severely malnourished or physically cannot stomach real food. Check out the 'weigh gainers what did you eat today' thread for real meal plans.. yours sounds very strange and eating disordered (do you have an eating disorder? apologies if you don't)

I'm sure other people can give more constructive advice than me but this diet you've suggested sounds very damaging.

I agree with mashed. Maybe if you were starving yourself you MIGHT gain a pound or two, but it is NOT the way to go about restoring your health. Ensure Plus and the like are for people who are severely malnourished or recovering from a surgery and cannot get real food into themselves, or on TOP of a a good regular diet.

I used to drink Ensure Plus when I was IP. I have drank it once or twice since then, and it was forced. I prefered to make my own shakes when I couldn't handle digesting real food. If you are underweight to the point where your body will not digest real food (like I was) you NEED to see a doctor and get a referral to a hospital if you can. If you can eat real food, you should. You can use the shakes to supplement calories, certainly. But do not become dependent on them for calories, its really not healthy. You really should be eating 6 times a day, but if you truly feel you do not have the oppurtunity to do as such, I suggest the following agenda:

Breakfast could be: 1/2 cup oatmeal cooked in Ensure Plus with fruit and 2TBS nuts or 1TBS peanut butter, slice of toast with a tablespoon of PB, butter, or whole scrambled egg.

Lunch could be: Sandwich (2 slices whole grain bread and 2TBS PB and 1TBS jam, or 2-3oz meat and 1-2oz cheese plus 1TBS mayonnaise or 2TBS avocado) salad with dressing, or cooked veggies with dressing/olive oil/butter and a piece of fruit.

Dinner: good, heaping portion of whatever your family is eating.

Snacks: Ensure Plus blended with banana and one tablespoon PB, or frozen berries and 2 tablespoons flaked coconut AND a granola bar or graham crackers.

Can you talk to your mom and dad to help you? I know things are different these days but maybe if you can ask them for help they can help you make your meals and also eat some of them with you not just at dinner. Ensure should be an aid not a replacement for meals. So have the ensure for a snack and try to eat balanced meals in addition. Have you been to the doctors for a check up? You are a very young person and need lots of nutrition for growth plus if you are underweight to gain.

Sweetheart, you need to sit down to a bigger meal.  I know sometimes that may be hard.  You should be eating vegetables (not just fruit, that will make sure that you are getting the proper Iron that you need) also some grains, even if it is just adding one or two pieces of toast, a bagel, an english muffin, have this along with your ensure and fruit.  Ensure does have calories and is healthier for you then a milk shake, but you body need some whole foods so that it is able to work and digest properly.

Good Luck
