HI All,
I think I could be pregnant I had my last period Feb 1/09. So I think its safe to test now, the last 3 tests I've taken have been defective (Clear blue test, the blue line didn't show up in the control window.) has this happened to anyone else. What test brand should I buy, or is it too early to test. its been at least 19 days( more) since we did the deed that would put us here (if we are) and I'm so sick of waiting :S Any advice please :)
Thanks!
I think its too early to tell. You just had your period at the beginning of this month. This month is a short month so I would count the average 28 days from your last period. Then tell from there. My sister is a OBGYN. I think you may just be a bit nervous. Its a little too early to tell. If you had unprotected sex then you have a window of about 12 to 14 days BEFORE your period where you're "ovulating" to be sure that youre not. I believe it takes three days for sperm to begin the process. If I were you, I would wait until I missed my next period. But try not to stress out because that could delay it as well. If you're really nervous I would consult my doctor and get a panel in case of something else as well. Hope that helped! :}
Thanks I probably should've added a bit more info. but now that I'm thinking about it I don't know if its possible that were pregnant? I went off B/C that Sat.(the last day we did it) and the next day I got my period. SO therefore could I even be pregnant? if my period came the next day after. The only reason I thought I could be pregnant is because ya I got my period the day after, but then their was no more b/c to stop the process etc... I dont' know I"m so confused. But I've been peeing a lot, my boobs have been sore and they have those little goosebump things on hte nipple that I've read can be a sign. O well, Iguess I will just hang in there. But is it possible to be pregnant if you get your period the day after you had sex? does that count. (may be a stupid question but I'm curious.!)
THanks!
OH! Those symptoms are common with water retention especially around the time that you get your period, and the effect could be because your hormones are going to change because you're no longer on BC. It is a possiblity that you can be preg-o but its a SLIM to none chance. I would still wait, I think you may just be hormonal and a little paranoid because you dont have the comfort of the pills anymore. I think you should be fine, but definitely make sure to watch your next period and speak to the Gyn-O. lol. You're fine. :}
I think it's probably got something to do with you going off BC, it's been a while for me but last time I went off the pill my hormones were very confused for a while. I would give it at least another month before I would think about testing again. You may have your answer before that time.
When I took a test, I had to pee in a cup and then dip the stick in for the recommended time to make sure it worked right. I thought it was kind of hard to pee right on the stick for long enough. That was easier for me. Good luck!
Most likely, you're not pregnant. If you had sex the day and then got your period the next day, then that means that cycle ended. And if you're taking birth control pills, going off it and getting your period is the same as the last week when you take the white pills(just placebos to help you keep in the routine of taking a pill every day) and you get your period.
deeglutenfree is right about it being way too early for you to detect pregnancy symptoms. When your period started, you entered day 1 of your next menstrual cycle
Day 1-Day 4 through 7 Period
Day 12-21 Range where you may ovulate (egg only survives for 1 day). Differs between women (buy ovulation kits when you do start trying)
Day 28-34 Range when you start your next cycle or period
Sperm can't live longer than five days and that's in the best environment (when you're ovulating and fertile)...so the chances you're pregnant if you had sex before Day 1 is pretty minimal. And also, don't be surprised if your cycles are irregular at first, doctors say it takes about 3-4 months before your cycle normalizes.
I also saw your earlier post about being scared to exercise for fear of jarring the baby in the uterus. When you ovulate (day 12-21 depending), it takes about 8 days for the fertilized egg to travel down the fallopian tubes and implant in the uterus. Pregnancy hormones do not start getting released until it implants in the uterus (so earliest day possible would be day 20 through 28th)
Sperm can live for 7 days. My current pregnancy is proof of that.
Pregnancy test work 5 days BEFORE your missed period. But another thing, logically, if you had unprotected sex, then had your period the next day, then you are almost definately NOT pregnant. If you had gotten pregnant then you would not of had your period, that simple. Also, I think that your period would have flushed out any sperm in there, and even if it didn't, then there is still no way, because those little buggers would have to stay alive for 2 weeks until your next ovulation cycle. Highly doubt that. Sperm TYPICALLY can only survice a max of 3 days, of course there are exceptions to every rule.
I got pregnant because I had unprotected sex 2 weeks after I STARTED my period. I was drunk, not thinking, which turns out is the exact right time to get pregnant. I sounded a lot like you. I thought my life was over, I was going to get an abortion, which luckily I did not, my life was ruined, blah blah blah.
But now I have my son, and I am happier than I have ever been in my whole life. He is beautiful, perfect, and wonderful. Having a baby is the best thing that has ever happened to me. And if you are pregnant, then it will be the best thing to ever happen to you too. They are wonderful, a lot of work, but wonderful.
More than likely, the person who thought their pregnancy proves it, probably ovulated a few days earlier than they thought. Doctors says you ovulate on the fourteenth day but it can be a few days earlier or a few days later. The only real good indication is whether you are charting your body temp upon waking up in the morning and it show a significant and sustained rise in temperature...and also a ovulation kit (you can buy in store).
Meagang=I've noticed that you have posted a few times about this topic. It would probably serve you best if you didn't start freaking out when your period was just two weeks earlier. No sense in getting all worked up. You should start to worry if it has been maybe 5 weeks since the day you started your last period. Normal cycles can range anywhere from 25 to 35 days and can change every month. And home pregnancy tests may not even be able to detect it...although some can, there are a lot of pregnancies that it takes another additional week to detect.
You should be able to use any home pregnancy test. Heck, I've used the cheapest generic brand one that comes in a value pack and gotten accurate results.

rainjoules= Sperm cannot live for 7 days. They live for three normally, and if you have fertile mucus (which only happens when you're about to ovulate), they can live only up to five days.
Where did you get your information that sperm can ONLY live up to five days? It's not like 5 days is a magic number and they just drop dead. If they can live for five, I bet they can live for seven. And if up to five days is the NORM, there are always anomalies. Unless it can be proven that sperm can't live past 5 days, they can. Since there's no way to prove that every sperm cell dies at the five day mark, I'm going to say it's possible for sperm to live seven days. :)
about the 3-5 days...if you're asking where I get my information...about every medical journal and textbook there is...including doctors. I taught biology so I know. You can try to put me down...but if you try to research yourself...you're going to find the same facts that I'm saying. You can even try to google it and there's multiple sources that all say the same thing.

I'm just saying that if you're going to give someone advice...especially when it's concerning something so special and sometimes scary for people as pregnancy, please be careful that it's not something you kind of think based on personal experience because we can be wrong. Make sure your points are valid and supported by actual facts or direct them to a doctor or source who can answer their questions.
I'm not trying to put you down. Thank you for your source.
My point is, there is NO PROOF that sperm CANNOT live for 7 days so we cannot say they only live for 5.
Edited to add: I have read a response from a doctor on the OBGYN.net forums stating they have found 6-7 day old living sperm in a woman's reproductive tract. Granted, the doctor said the sperm was weakened and hardly moving but it was there (I don't recall if he/she mentioned where in the reproductive tract it was found).
thanks...I was wondering what your source is. And whether these sperm are actually viable...because then it kind of defeats their purpose.
The New World Encyclopedia says sperm can live up to 6 or 7 days.
I highly doubt the sperm were viable. It does defeat the purpose. I'm looking for the specific topic now but it was from the forums on http://www.obgyn.net
And it also depend on the sex of the sperm. Female sperm are usually slower swimmers that last longer, the 5-7 day range, and male sperm are faster swimmers that only last about 3 days. I read an article on the Mayo Clinic web page during my reserch on how I could have gotten preggers while on birth control!
That said, you usually have to wait until you actually miss your period to test for pregnancy. If your worried that the home tests might be wrong, go to an urgent care clinic or a free clinic and get a pregnancy test there. They do a blood test usually so its a bit more accurate. I'm not sure if your happy, worried or just dazed, so I wish you luck with what ever out come happens!

Not necessairly. I was ON my period when I got drunk + unprotected= baby. The egg isn't flushed away right when the periond starts. It's could still be viable and ready for fertilization! Those sperm are resiliant, and one out of the million could have survived. Its a possibility.
Doesn't anyone remember what they learned in high school health class? You can get pregnant the first time you have sex. You can get pregnant if you have sex during your period! It has happened to people before. It's not very likely, but sometimes people ovulate at irregular times. Just because you have your period doesn't mean you're not going to ovulate and there's zero chance of getting pregnant.
Telling people they can't get pregnant during their period is irresponsible and inaccurate. And yes I have charted my temperature before since we have fertility problems. Sperm can live 7 days.
I think the first post had it right. When in doubt, take a pregnancy test...if you're not satisfied with that...see a doctor. They're the experts.
And considering it's been a month since she posted this question, she probably has her answer.
