QUESTION.. how bad is it not to get the nutrients my body 'needs'? I absolutely can't stand the taste of fruit or veggies anymore. ANY KIND. I hate chicken, beef. I hate salads, soups. I hate wholegrain bread. I hate eggs. And I"m terrified that Im about to gain weight, since my diet has plummeted drastically to CRAP. (I quit exercising for a month, started back up again at 30 min+ a day)
I'm 120lbs(lost 12 in april-may, maintained so far for 2 mo) , 5'4, and 20 yrs old. All the food I eat goes straight to my bigass thunder thighs.
I guess you already know this, but yes, that diet is very bad for you and will take its toll on your health over time. I never used to like veggies or meats either, but you just need to find a way to make them most appealing to you. Put your favorite seasonings on veggies and grill them or something. Get creative with it because anything is better than nothing. Sure, your calorie count isn't too high, but it is from many of the wrong things and does not constitute a healthy diet. When it comes to food, I know that there are many things I don't like too much, but i will still eat them just because I know its good for me. I would say just suck it up and down some things you don't really like. It will help you in the long run.
That list of foods is exactly what my kiddies would eat if I let them. I'd suggest spicing them up as well. Does the taste make you sick or is it just that you don't like those foods? I personally dress those foods up, trying to make them taste better and a bit fun for my children. However, if they don't eat what I cook, they just have to go without. No snack after supper or anything unless they eat their veggies. If you still don't like them after trying different methods to "adjust" the taste, I'd say eat them anyways.
Remember, you are what you eat! Wanna be a big ball of greasy pizza for the rest of your life?
well I'm no expert, but I'd say you're pretty doomed. The foods you listed is no way for anybody to eat. Forget about what you'll look like on the outside, consider what you're doing to your insides. You're hair and skin will soon follow suit too. They need vitamins and water to stay vibrant and healthy.
Definitely continue to work out. Everything you listed was processed. Consider cutting back on certain food and drink you're currently consuming. Like the monster, for example, that doesn't seem like a hard thing to kick. If you're gonna eat all of that other junk at least limit your liquids to water. And there are substitutes to chicken and beef, what about turkey, fish, or tofu? You NEED lean proteins. Do you like rice? Have some brown rice and black beans. Make it a point to take a multivitamin and a fish oil pill for your hair and skin. Have cereal as a snack instead of laffy taffy. Try drinking a nutritional supplement like ensure instead of a meal, it'll be like drinking a milkshake and you'll get some nutritional value out of it. There has to be a way for you to get your serving of fruits and vegetables, drink V-8 or something or better yet, just suck it up and eat them, it's not that big of a deal. After a while you might start to like one or two. try preparing them different ways.
Where there's a will there's a way. If you really care, you'll figure out what's best for you. I think you know the answer to your own question already. You're doing your health a disservice and everyone will tell you the same.
Anyway.. I cant eat it because Im just sick of it all. Makes me wanna puke.
sara you are an all or nothing person like me it sounds like. I have done the exact same thing you're saying a million times. Three months of pristine food consumption followed by three months of beer and drive thrus.
Trust your elder on this one, MODERATION. I know everyone has probably told you this, but it's true. For most of us, eating 100% clean 100% of the time leads to exactly what you did: two weeks of pizza, Starbucks and sugar.
All I can tell you is find some more recipes, stick to the basics but allow yourself some goodies. I love cheese so I add cheese to a lot of things but keep myself at my calories for the day
Have some bread once in a while. Not wheat bread but melt in your mouth white bread. It won't kill you, plus having the crap that's bad every so often keeps you sane. I swear by it
You need to learn the art of moderation sweety... there's a happy medium between living on steamed vegetables and eggwhites, and living on pizza and candy bars. Healthy food does not have to be a form of torture. If you like pasta, it's fine to eat it - just eat whole-wheat pasta and put some vegetables with the sauce... fry your chicken if you want, but use lean breasts and go easy on the salt. You want white bread - it's fine to have it, just not every night. I made biscuits and gravy for our dinner last night - not exactly 'diet food', but I used 1% milk and no extra fat and we ate a side salad with it...
The above posters are right. I used to do the same thing until the sight of a salad made me want to hurl. Moderation is definitely key. I will have a soda every now and then and on the weekends I will splurge on a huge dinner with lots of beer at a restaurant and then eat well the rest of the time. I have kept off the weight and kept my sanity as well.
Sara308, take a big girl pill, grow up, and learn to eat vegetables and fruits, lean meats, whole grains, fat free dairy products and healthy fats like olive oil and avocado. Eat some nuts and seeds every day to give you a boost of important nutrients. For the sake of your lifelong health you have to do this.
I recommend The World's Healthiest Foods List and the Mayo Clinic Using a Food Pyramid websites.
No, that diet itsn't good for you and yes, it will harm you in the long run.
You should add some fruits and veggies in there for starters. Then try adding lean meats, as well.
That's not to say cut all the stuff your eating now out, but eat it in moderation and learn to make it healthier, if you can.
String cheese- it's fine once a day, in my opinion, that's not so bad.
Cafe Mocha- It's not the best for you, you know it as well as I do, but try and limit it to, like, 3 times a week, as a treat. I know I could never give up my light mocha frapaccino's from Starbucks, so I have them in moderation.
Pizza- Try making your own pizza. Make it with low-fat cheese, flat bread, pizza sause and lots of veggies. That way, it's healthier for you.
Bread- Try and avoid white bread, get whole grains if you can afford it.
Baked cheeto's, laffy taffy and monsters just arn't good for you at all, I'd try and limit them to once a month or less, if you can.
You wrote above that you used to eat clean.. well you don't have to eat completely clean but you should try and eat healthier. Would you rather have food that makes you want to puke along with a treat or serious health issues later on from eating nothing but junk?
It's you life and you can change it, don't be an all or nothing person, it will bite you in the butt later.
First of all Sara, you are a healthy weight for your size. Great job getting there! Try to appreciate your body's charms, instead of trying to fit yourself into a mold that doesn't work for you! (e.g. don't call your thighs 'bigass thunder thighs. It helps nobody.)
Secondly, you know that your diet is not healthy. However, this doesn't mean you can't eat the foods you like; just try to eat them along with healthier foods in addition.
With your problem with fruits and vegetables, there is a simple solution. Try picking your fruits at the peak of freshness and in their season. For example, pomegranates are sweet as candy in December, but sour and awful in the summertime. Also, try experimenting with exotic fruits and vegetables like guavas, passion fruit, or horned melon. These are definitly worth the splurge, especially for the sake of your health. Tropical fruits tend to be healthy and also insanely sweet in their season. Try thinking of your fruit as candy, but candy that is naturally occurring in nature!
Try putting some variety into your diet. Healthy food does not have to be disgusting. I recommend that you start cooking your meals, using cookbooks that center around healthy and delicious cooking. I personally recommend Jacques Pepin.
