ok,to start, i have an eating disorder. Im trying to recover, after being threatened t be hospitalized by my mother and counslers at school.

As well as them threatning me, i've realized how much i've messed myself up. I no longer get my period, i havent for I'd say...atleast a year. Im terribly scared this is going to change my life in the future, im scared i will never be able to have children. Everyday i think about this and it gets me so upset, sometimes to the point of tears.

Secondly, my parents no longer want me excersizing. They think it will only make things worse seeing as they think my dissorder started with Gym class and my teacher weighing me infront of the whole class. So im no longer allowed to take gym classes or run or anything.

I weight 106 pounds and im 5 feet f inches tall, 16 years old.
when i bend over, my back bones protrude, and my ribs are visible.
My legs look scrawny, and my arms do too.

I can eat 1,700 calories a day, and i seem to just stay at 106 pounds.
Then, when i have an off day and can only make about 1200 - 1300, i lose weight like Crazy!

My mom said shes going to do a "weigh in" soon, and i should be 110 pounds. So i tried to increase, and today i actually made it to 2500 ish because of the holiday! i was SO proud of myself. But then, the more i read, it looks like this one day isnt gonna help me.

So here are the many questions I pose to you:

Will one or two days of eating 2,500 cals make me gain any weight?
Will that scale tomorrow morning read 110?
How can i gain weight steadily and make it to 110 pounds?
How many calories a day would it take to maintain 110 pounds ATLEAST?
When will I get my period back?

2500 calories per day are probably what you need for maintenance since you're an active teen.  So, no it shouldn't make you gain. However you may gain a pound or two when you first start eating that much just until your body adjusts to having a normal amount of food again.

The only way the scale will read 110 if you're dehydrated and retaining TONS of water - even then its unlikely.

You can gain weight steadily by eating between 2500-3000 calories a day without exercising.  You may need more than that.  Alot of teens need up to 4000 calories a day to gain.  5-6 smaller meals per ay seems to work better than 3 larger meals for most people, but not everyone.  You should talk to a nutritionist to help you figure out how & what to eat and when to eat it.

You'll get your period back when your body fat percentage is high enough to support the hormone levels and energy requirements needed to menstrate.

GOOD LUCK!

Just wanted to try and quell your fears a bit;

From what i've read and been told the general consensus with the medical profession is that if you have had secondary amenorrhea (Stopped getting your period) for less than 3 years before you pursue a healthy weight than it is almost certain that you can get your period back and have kids.

Once past the 3 year mark your chances decrease substantially from what i hear BUT i know many people who have had amenorrhea (some for as long as 11 years) and have gone on to have wonderful, healthy children.

I myself have gone without it for 4 years but i am hopeful i can still have kids in the future -if not I'll adopt :)

take care,

I weight 106 pounds and im 5 feet f inches tall,

sorry lol, how tall are you? I'm 5' 5" and a normal healthy weight for me is 100-105ish eating 2,000+ calories a day. the doctor told me i have a naturally slim figure and this is a good weight for me. so unless you're 5'11" or around there 106 isn't absolutely rediculous, and you should be able to exercise. Running has always helped me gain weight. I started really running or soccer and track my freshmen year of high school and went from 92lb to 98lb during soccer season at about 5'1". I grew about 4 inches over the next year and continued running and exercising and gained a few more pounds. Running builds muscle, which weighs more than fat. sitting around doing nothing causes you to lose muscle, aka weight lol.

good luck and keep eating!

FYI - 100-105 is not a healhty weight from someone that is 5'5" even with a a"naturally slim figure".  I'm 5'3" and even at my height its considered underweight.

Hey I have an eating disorder too. First of all DONT COUNT CALORIES what my weight gain diet is based on getting enough servings of each food group a day. I started counting calories and  that what helped develop this stupid disease. You start to get your period back when you eat enough fat in your diet. It takes a certain amount of fat to allow the menstration process to happen. But I know you dont want to gain weight because you probobly still think you are fat. My spine sticks out and every single one of my ribs portrude, yet I still cant help noticing how I need to get rid of that fat on  my stomach or thighs. *sigh* I know how you feel. It sucks its like being stuck in this large hole, because no one seems to understand why that thin girl wont put on  a few pounds.

god i cant even tell you how much i feel for you right now. Unfortunately I've also learned that that scale wont reach 110 just by those calories alone- as hard as I tried too. I know exactly how you feel and what you are experiencing right now. My parents, too, have forbade me from exercising completely and the next step is hospitalization. It's not even a threat anymore. They've picked out places, doctors, and everything and its the most depressing thing in the world since i really do want to get better. I was really proud of myself too when I ate a million times better when we vacationed, only to learn that I flat out maintained 107. They're aiming or 115 however, and i'm dreading those mom weigh-ins. What I find helps is to eat 5 actual meals a day that consist of smaller foods with high calories (as opposed to people who eat 5 mini meals a day to lose weight). Right now i'm in the same position as you are, but at the time that was helping me if i was honestly consistent and determined enough to stick to it. I'm not sure how many calories would be right for you, but get as much as possible with the smallest amounts of food because then you dont feel as sick. Good Luck

Uhhhh that's not a healthy weight for 5'5"...  My sister is 5'1" and she weighs 107 which is still really really thin for her height....
