so recently i've been waking up between 3:30 and 4am to use the bathroom, but my stomach beings growling so i eat. i've tried to go back to sleep without eating but it doesn't work, and as soon as i eat i pass out. i eat my breakfast at this time and just don't eat when i wake up, because i'm not hungry anyway. the first time i did it i didn't think it was a big deal but now it's happening like clockwork. it's awful! how can i stop doing this? how can i go back to sleep?!

First... don't have anything to drink closer than 2 hours before you go to bed.  Then your bladder won't wake you up.  Next, make sure you're eating plenty of good, nourishing food evenly spaced during the day.  Choose slow-release foods such as wholegrains and lean proteins as these keep your digestion.  Especially have plenty of wholegrain foods or starchy vegetables like potatoes with your supper... leafy vegetables don't keep a body running for long enough and the fad for 'no carbs after 7pm' is just silly.  Make sure your bedroom is dark, quiet and not overheated... then your sleep will be better quality.

Don't skip breakfast if it happens again...  All you're doing is making your body think lunch is breakfast, supper is lunch and the 4am snack is supper.... eating like a shift-worker.  Get up and eat breakfast whether you're hungry or not and you may find it helps.

Good luck
