Hey yall, I was just wondering if there is any fast way to knock of my excess pounds the same way that I gained them. I actually gained about 15 pounds in 3-4 days. What happened if that I got upset and took for granted the weight that I lost and started stuffing myself until I could eat no more. Is there anything that I can do or am I just gonna have to take almost a week or two losing these pounds that I gained in a couple of days. Thanks in advance...

What sort of foods did you binge on? 15 pounds sounds really extreme for a 3-4 day period.

Unfortunately you can't get rid of weight at the same rate you stacked it on, so back to the healthy eating, and work your butt off is the only way you'll see it go back down. (and stick to it.)

Best of luck :)

You probably didn't put on 15 lbs of actual fat, but took in a lot of sodium and extra food, so you may need to give it time to see what type of damage you actually did. Just get back onto a routine of healthy eating/exercise and see where you are in a week or two.

The emotional aspect is worth thinking about, however. "Normal" living doesn't involve eating like that for most people. You might want to give some thought to how you are eating on a regular basis--too strict, to restrictive, too much denying of what you like. Finding a happy medium will help you maintain healthy eating habits for long periods of time.

And you know, it's ok to go wild on occasion. Even for a few days, like on a vacation or something, once in a blue moon. BUT even then, eating until you are unable to eat anymore is a bit extreme (except on Thanksgiving, right? :) But knowing that you will have special occasions where you won't worry about gaining a few lbs can take off the pressure. All things in moderation--and I think that includes one's usual lifestyle. Letting your hair down, as it were, isn't bad for you, but it cannot be something you do often. Again, a moderate expectation of letting go is more likely to serve you well in the long run.

If you find you have trouble keeping a healthy balance between routines and special exceptions to your routine, then you'll need to really examine your psyche and maybe work with a professional to find out why. Swinging back and forth between extremes is not moderation.

Good luck.

thank you, I actually binged on all kinds of fried foods and sweets. Oh and bread. That was a really bad mistake, but I bet that I won't do that again. You are right. Back to healthy eating, and yes I will stick to it Smile

Hi there, I can definitely relate to the quick weight gain.  I once gained 8 lbs in one day and I didn't eat anything bad, it was completely related to my period.  Menstruation can really make you bloat.  I'd drink loads of water, especially if salt (another big bloat factor for me) is in the mix :)

I'm sure your weight gain isn't really that much fat. You could have  water weight gain. I feel your weight should level out in a few days, and you will see the real damage you did with your 3 day binge eating.

You can't forget Sodium & waste. I feel that could be 10 of your 15 pounds, and that could be the problem right there... Bust your butt, and go full gun ho at losing the weight again. You will level out. I gain 10 pounds in 2 days, ate clean for a week and busted my (A)...... Lost it all, and more within a week. It could be just water weight gain, and body waste..

I hope this helps..

Thank all of you for your help. I sure will not do that again...

Hi, I can relate, except I gained the 15 pounds over the course of a month.  I'd been doing so well, I dropped just over 30 pounds in 5 months, was looking nice and toned, then for some reason a month ago I lost it and I've been eating pretty much whatever and however much I want.  And not excercising.  And now I'm 15 pounds heavier.  Its so discouraging.

Anyone have any tips to help me get back into this?  I was only 10 pounds away from my goal weight, now I've popped back up to 25 pounds away from my goal.  Help please?!

The only thing thats better about it is I have a chest again..... :o)

For tngardengal....   If you've a tendency to overeat when left to your own devices I think the first hurdle to jump is to accept that 'eating pretty much whatever and however much I want'... has to go.

That doesn't mean rigid dieting and punishing exercise programmes, however.   Losing 30lbs in 5 months was pretty good work but it doesn't sound like you enjoyed it enough to keep that particular regime going long-term if you gave up on it?  And if your chest disappeared maybe 30lbs was too much to lose?   A healthy lifestyle has to be fun and interesting if you're going to keep it up.  Accepting that you need to be a little more conscious of portion-sizes and a little more active on an ongoing basis.  Not just until the scales show the right number....

Start with small things that you can adopt on a permanent basis.  A daily walk, perhaps.   5-a-day fruit and vegetables.   Limiting alcohol or cakes to a once a week treat.  Cooking more meals at home and eating out or using ready-meals less often.   Small do-able things that will make a big difference.  And take it from there.  It's better to be a healthy weight for life than some mythical ideal weight for a few weeks.  Good luck

To tngardengal: I agree with G.I. Jane. She is absolutely correct. Do you think that maybe you are trying to lose too much weight? Wow, this feels so much like I am being a hypocrite because I gained all that weight in just a couple of days. Well, the truth of the matter is that I do know how to lose weight, it is just that I got tired and fed up, but me gaining 15 pounds was just not called for, and now I have to do all that work back over again. I do realize that this type of behavior is just making it hard on my own self. Now if you do happen to binge, then just try not to go over that certain amount of calories that you know that you will burn in a single day. oh, and for a really great tip, do not go too long without eating. When I am really on my diet the right way, I try to make sure that I do not go for more than 3-4 hours without eating. That way my metabolism will stay boosted up and I will be able to burn more calories. Whatever you do, if you do happen to mess up, try not to eat more calories than you know that you will burn, and don't go any longer than 3-4 hours without eating. Don't deprive yourself too much because at the end of the day you will be starved and will want to eat anything, and then all of work will be in vain.  I hope that this helps. Just speaking from experience.....

I agree with G.I. Jane,  Tngardengal.

We are changing our life style here, and this is the best thing we can do for ourselves. We are known as the fatest nation, and I don't want to be in that group. But! Right now I am, and it don't matter how much I hate it. I am doing this for me, and it has to be done in order for me to live a happy life.

I know you ran one hell of a race to lose those 30 pounds, but you have to really keep at it, and eat right and drop the junk. You and I must stay focus, and we must do this, I know you can get back on track.

The best thing to do is find something you love doing, and be active with it. I love weight training, and I am very active with it. I love to run, and I was very active with it until I hurt myself. The thing about liking it now. "Working Out" is knowning I am not lazy and I can better myself.

I do believe you can over come your set back. You just have to get your head into the game and go at it full gun ho.

~ Eating Clean
~ Eating the right carbs
~ Eating Protein
~ Working Out
~ Drinking 60 to 80oz of water
~ Making sure you love what you are doing for yourself.
~ Counting your calories and eating the right amount of calories

I know you can do this, and it will happen. You lost 30, and you can knock off what you gained.

Good Luck,

Lynn
