help, i gained weight
hey yall, well i have gained about 25 pounds, and it is no one's fault but my own. it's like when i lose weight and start looking nice, i start to think that i can just eat whatever i want and that is the biggest mistake everytime. i had lost down to 225 pounds, but this morning i weighed in at a whopping 249.5 pounds. i must say that this was very discouraging. it's like now i have to go back and lose the same weight that i had already lost back again when i actually could have been a whole lot further. i have heard some people say that when you gain like 3-4 pounds per day that a lot of times it is just water gain. is this true and if so what can you do to quickly get rid of it? thank you all in advance for your help....
As to what you were origionally saying, there is no easy solution. Life is what it is right now. I'm still working on convincing myself that a change in eating habbits and exercise is a life long persuit. In the end you just have to remind yourself that it's not a race, and start plugging away at the 25 pounds again. It's hard not to be depressed when you step on that scale for the first time knowing your up. Now that you have the worste out of the way set your goals and be happy that you are on track.

Our weight fluctuates. It is normal. What you can do, however, is to monitor your food intake and do not weigh yourself so often (to eliminate your paranoia)! Do a weigh-in once or twice a week to see if you have successfully maintained your goal weight.
If you are thinking that some of it is water weight, I will tell you what I do when I suspect the same thing:
I eat REALLY well for a day or two. I only drink water as it is (except for occasional milk and beer), but I drink MORE water. I don't eat anything overly salty and I eat a ton of veggies and fruits. Doing this helps flush out the salt and excess water.
Even if you have to lose it again, it is okay! I have lost the same ten lbs over and over for a few months now....as annoying as it is, you know you can do it!
I'm right there with you! I was doing really well and quit paying attention to what I was eating for the last couple of months..mentally tallying instead of actually adding the calories and entering here in the log. I kicked myself over and over because when I stepped on the scale again on Sunday I'd gained 12lbs. Depressing!! Especially since I was so excited to finally be seeing a number that was less than 300..then to see it over 300 again..I wanted to cry. Now, I'm back to losing the same weight again, which I have complained about before! Why is it so hard to stop doing that to myself? GRR... But, enough rant from me, and now for the positive. I'm back to logging everything in black and white and as of this morning, I'm down 3lbs. Since it's only been 2 days, I have high hopes that some of it was actually water and bloat from bad eating at Thanksgiving!
About the water, here's my two cents..I got a tip from a friend who boxes professionally and uses it the morning before his weigh ins. It works for me, and it does seem to take off the water and help with the bloat. Take 1/2 cup of water just a little hotter than you can stand it, add 1/4 cup of lemon juice (which cools it down enough to drink). Drink it straight, as soon as you mix it. Yes, it tastes AWFUL, but you can do this every morning if you need to. I mostly do it when I feel that bloated feeling (PMS anyone??!) or know I've had to much salt/sodium the day before. The best part is it's natural and you won't get the cramps or muscle fatigue you might get from a water pill!
I like the comforting theory (I don't know if it's true) that weight can be taken off in a third of the time it took to put on - therefore if I gained it fast, I can lose it fast.
Good luck getting it right back off and more! You can do it!
Why am I gaining weight after a gastric bypass?
After a gastric bypass, absorption becomes more efficient over time. And so, unless you have dumping syndrome, assume that absorption is not a problem... Read more
