PLEASE HELP! I have a pain in my left side, under my rib cage. It's a shooting pain and everytime I breathe deeply, or try to move it KILLS. I tried looking up online everywhere what it could be but I can't find anything! It's been going on for about a half an hour and it's constant. I've had plenty of sicknesses but trust me, this one kills! It's almost 10 so I can't go to the doctor and I don't want to go to the emergency room unless it still hurts in the morning! Anyone have any ideas?! Please help!

you obviously have issues if you have enough time to get on your computer and type out your problem but you don't have enough time to go the emergency room. we can't do anything to help you but the HOSPITAL can. you're in pain and you don't know why. hmmm...you have to be an intelligent person....go to the emergency room.
Get to the ER; if it hurts too bad get someone to drive you or call 911. Good luck; my thoughts are with you.
You don't have any other symtoms than the pain in your side?
This has happened to me before. It goes away on its own for me. I sometimes try to stretch it out (I know it really hurts).
FYI, a lot of times, gas can cause this type of pain :) Do you have anything you can take for gas and bloating?
If you get any other symptoms, make sure you call 911:
numbness, faintness, sudden sweating, trouble thinking clearly, coughing up blood, etc.

WOW vmcbutterfly!!!! Angry Much!!! It is obvious that this person is looking for help not Angry, high strong, mean spirited advice like what you dished out!! Of course I am sure you will respond back to me in the same annoying nature because I disagree with your approach (just so you know I expect it and won't respond); however, I want allmiiluhvx3 to know that not everyone on this site is so calluse in their approach to a person in need!!!
allmiiluhvx3 you may want to contact a friend or family member that is near you and see if they can take you to the emergency room. I pray that everything is alright with you.

wow vmcbutterfly, no need for the attitude. i don't need help - no need
to insult my intelligence. and seeing as all i can do is sit in this
position or else it kills i don't really want to move. but thanks for
the help, and the attitude.
suzi, thanks but i think it's calming down a little :]
rufftumbler, yeah it's going away a little. it's going on and off now. i don't have any medicine but i can have someone run to the store for me if needed. anything you'd suggest?

thanks so much carsonvk :] yeah, i told my family they said we'll wait
til morning if it still hurts they'll take me to the doctor. and yeah,
i know; some people on here have anger problems ;]
allmiiluhv, glad it's feeling better. Unfortunately, i don't know what kind of medicine to suggest. I've never taken gas medicine before in my life :P I just know brand names like Gas-X or Beano. If you have someone from your family go to the drugstore for you, have them ask the pharmacist what would be best.
Good luck :)
Good luck :)
My best guess is gas pains but it could possibly be a gall bladder problem. I would get to the doctor if you can. Hope everything turns out well for you.
carsonvk i don't care if you respond but you will probably read this..i wasn't angry at all. and its everyone else who has an "annoying nature" because i am sick and tired of people using this site for medical advice. i love reading the forums but i think that some people use them for the wrong reasons. sure it's great for support but some people seek the advice of people on here instead of seeking PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL attention. and that is what bothers me. they could be putting thier health at risk waiting for some calorie counter to type away on their computer thier own opinion that in the end won't really do anything.
I think this needs to be moved to health and support which is one of the forum topics. We all come here for advice, not diagnosis which I dont believe anyone was requesting.
Glad you feel better allmiiluhvx3 . Sometimes our body does weird things for no reason. I too would have waited a bit before slapping myself with an atrocious emergency room bill.

Drinking soda before I worked out used to do this to me! I agree with the gas build up theory!
DO you drink diet soda? I had the same thing, I thought I had lung cancer (at 22 yrs old!) turns out it was gull stones.. They hurt beyond words!
I had something similar one time...in my early 20s...everytime I bent over, I felt like I was being knifed in the ribs...saw my doctor, was diagnosed as an air pocket in the lungs.
Very painful, mine went away after a few days...see your doctor, but it might be something similar.

It could very well be gas. And don't feel bad because enough people have gone to ERs for possible heart attacks (have to assume it is until you know it isn't) that turned out to be bad gas. It can really make you feel lke if you breathe you might just die. If you can burp on command, I'd try doing some of that, as silly as that sounds. It can relieve it a tiny bit, even if temporarily, but then also help rule out what it is. I'd stay away from drinks with straws for a bit & you could try an over the counter remedy if you like.
Did you drink a whole butt load of water recently? Or drink too fast? On occasion I've gotten a rather ugly pain from that. Not pleasant.
I also am prone to getting pacman munching around in my abdomen for hours if not days at a time for no real reason. I think sometimes it comes from going too long without food, then finally eating, but it can last a day or so even after I've eaten. It was all checked out years ago when I had it the worst & there's nothing really wrong, but boy is it uncomfortable when it happens.
If it persists too long or gets worse or you have a "sense" that something is truly not right then seek help, despite the hour. Silly is wayyyyy better than dead!

If its not gas and does not subside it may be your Appendix???
The appendix is on the lower right side of the body, not the upper left ;)
I know it's a little late, but if you ever have problems like that again, you could call your family doctor for advice - if it is after hours, they should have an after-hours number to call to get in touch (and don't feel bad about calling after hours, that is what the number is for :) ). Most likely, the answering message will list the # or instruct you to leave a message and someone will call back shortly :)

It could be so many things. Is the gall bladder on that side of the body? I hear that it really hurts if you have gall stones. Also, I've had shingles, which causes excruciating pain on only one side of the body.
In any event, you should call the doctor or go to the ER. I wouldn't wait.

Is there any possibility that you've broken a rib? That can be very painful after a day or two, when the bruising starts to feel.
I think you should go to the ER if the pain continues. It's always good to get an opinion.
