Help? Hips/Lovehandles

Quote  |  Reply

I've been losing weight since last July now, and I lost 30 lbs so far.  I used to weigh 195 and I currenlty weigh 165.  I look a lot different and for the most part I'm happy with it.  But I feel like I could lose more, I would like to lose 5 more lbs.

I'm 5"8/5"9 and am 18 years old.  I've looked on websites and it says I should weigh 144/150.  But for my body type, that would be very very skinny. My problem areas are my love handles.  They have gone down, but I feel like they could go down a little more.  I'm not sure if it's just my hips though either, like if I have big hips.

Basically, I'm wondering what I should do to help my hips/love handle area.  I go to the gym, and I diet.  I just have trouble eating the amount of calories I'm supposed to because I'm afraid of gaining weight.  I'm still not 100% happy with myself.

Thanks everyone.

I'm no expert and I will never claim to be but based on my own experiences you have to learn to love yourself.  I am a pear shape which means I carry A LOT of weight in my thighs, hip and rear end.  Growing up I hated it because all of my friends were SO much smaller than I was.  I'm 26 now and have come to grips with the fact that I will never lose my curves, my thighs and hips will always be larger framed than my upper body.  The only thing I can do is continue to lead a healthy lifestyle and tone up the best I can.  Dressing your body right can always make things appear slimmer than they actually are as well.

Unfortunately, you can't burn fat where you want to - just where your body wants to.

One thing you could do is work on upper body workouts, like pushups, pullups, shoulder presses, and rows, that will help make your shoulders more defined and can help balance out the hips. I'm a pear too, and since I started weight lifting, my shape looks much more hour-glass-ish. I'm much happier with my body than when I was at this weight several years ago, but without the weight lifting.

If you jump up and twist your upperbody while your in the air and keep doing tht for a couple minutes during your workout Ive heard that works. Like jumping while moving your hips, its hard to describe... just do anything tht pulls the skin tight on tht area for a while and I guess that will work.

Yeah, it does depend upon your body type, but the more lower-body cardio you do, the better.  The best thing for trimming fat off your hips is running... doing intervals of jogging and sprinting and then some endurance work.  I started running in november and noticed a dramatic reduction of fat from my hips and waist... it's because it's so high intensity and burns a lot of calories.

There is fat loss and weight loss. I found that I did not get rid of my love handles until I lost fat. HIIT and weight lifting, calorie control and eating clean/balanced is key to fat loss. The saying abs are made in the kitchen is true. Do you weight train?
