help!!! hospital stay!

Quote  |  Reply

HI! urgent question. I've been trying to lose the weight i gained over thanksgiving and christmas, with not much result. I went from about 110 to 130!

I've been doing all the healthy things... but now I'm in the hospital for pancreatitus and diabetic complications!! and they've been giving my dextrose infused saline. And I have a GREAT hunch that that wold bring my daily caloric count over my normal limit. For each new pack they hang up is 200ml of 5% dextrose with 0.9% sodium chloride is 170 calories!!

What should I do??? I mean, I can't very well tell the doctors that I want to stop it, because I'm on a treatment... but I'm hoping to get some advice... maybe some comfort. I wouldn't want to gain an extra 20 pounds from my stay at the hospital!! I'm not getting any excercise at all! I'm all hooked up to machines and IVS, and even going to the bathroom is a bit of a problem I have to call the to unhook me and hook me back up when I'm done.... ERGH

First off, quit stressing out.  You are there to get better.  Stressing out will just hinder you recovery.

Your doctors are doing everytihing that they can to get your body to function properly.  That is their job.

Just relax and get better.

Go through with the treatment.  You can discuss your concerns about weight gain with the doctor, but your first priority should be getting healthy, then you can tackle weight loss.

would just hate it if i get out all fat and healthy, then have to work extra hard when i get out...

Relax... get urself healthy enough so that you can work on getting back in shape.  I think your first priority right now should be getting healthy..  I hope I didn't offend you in anyway.  Your not going to gain 20 pounds off of the meds.

um ok... just looked in the mirror. my arms look extrea fat... i hope that's just liquid retained by my body from the saline solutions...

Let me put it this way.  It's easier to lose weight when your healthy than it is to lose or maintain it when you're not healthy.  Get healthy first, then worry about your calorie intake.  Let your doctor know your concerns as there may be something s/he can do to help.

I was in hospital for 2 weeks in October with Pancreatitis, also on a saline/dextrose drip. I lost 15 lbs those 2 weeks, and another 10lbs the week i got home. Mostly muscle. If you can, move your legs to avoid joint aches. And just relax and get better.

ooh yay, i like that last reply. yea, i try to move my legs as much as i can. thannks a lot!!!
