Help! Huge Breakfast!

Quote  |  Reply

So this morning, I am at 676 and only for breakfast! I'm on a 1300 cal diet that I have been following it. What should I do today to recover without feeling starved? Any idea what to eat without going over my daily cal intake?

Can you do some excersise to make up for it a little? If i ever go over like that - especially at breakfast i just step up my excersise - but don't worry about it too much - it's o.k. to go over once in a while :) Even without any excersise, you still have like 500 cals left, so you probably won't be massively over your allowance as long as you have a small lunch and dinner :)

I wouldn't try to claw it back with a mega-light lunch and supper or you'll wake up in the morning feeling even more like a big breakfast than ever.   Go with your normal-size meals for the rest of the day and make it a day where you eat 1500 or 1600 cals for a change.  It'll make no difference to your weight at the end of the week and could even mean you lose more.....

When I splurge on my calories early in the day dinner is almost always an eggwhite omlette with veggies. Still, I like the suggestion of doing extra excersize better, that way you can eat 1500 or 1600 and not feel guilty about it.

Breakfast should always be your largest meal of the day anyhow.  I wouldn't feel too guilty since you're more likely to work it off over the course of the day.  Walk a mile or two at some point today if you feel that bad and try to ease up on yourself.  The occasional splurge has never killed a diet and if it was a healthy, balanced breakfast, I'd worry even less.

Well, you can make taco soup for dinner. You get 2 cups for like 500 calories. Then, if you walk 30minutes.. you can have a 300 calorie lunch and you'll still be good to go!

Let me know if you want the recipe to taco soup.. it's good, cheap and easy!

So you have 624 calories left if you don't do anything. If I were in that situation, I'd eat a lot of foods with low calorie densities- broth-based soup, popcorn, peaches, blueberries, celery dipped in a low-cal dressing, etc. so I wouldn't feel hungry. Good luck- you can do it!

Just curious--Why 1300 calories?  That seems awfully low.  I'm concerned for two reasons--if you eat too few calories, you risk your body going into starvation mode and having your metabolism slow way down.  Also, if you want to take the weight off and keep it off, you probably should be working with a daily caloric intake close to what you will be maintaining the rest of your life.

Good luck, BTW.

Well, I had a 300-cal lunch (a small salad and a fresh fruit cup), but with the all the water I've been drinking I'm still full. I still have 330 calories left for dinner. We'll see how much food I'll be able to sneak in with 330 cal. I will go workout and I may have to hit it pretty hard. I regret eating so much for breakfast, because now it's hurting!

I would like the recipe, if you don't mind =)

yes post the recipe on here! I would love to try it!

I'm not really sure. I read a lot of articles about diets that are usually about 1200. I posted a post in foods, asking if its too low and how many calories other people are eating. I'm curious and I def. don't want to put my body in starvation mode.

all i know is, 1300 calories does seem much too low'

my basal metabolic rate is about 1400 alone, thats what my organs need to function without anything else. THats excluding my lean muscsle, tissues, and activty... so...

1300 is usually the bare bare bare bare minimum of survival. I assume you are probably eating too low, unless your totally totally inactive.

That's actually not far off what you should be eating. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and should be when most of your calories are consumed. The breakdown should be 40% at breakfast 30% at lunch and 20% at dinner with the remaining 10% being snacks. Breakfast jumpstarts your metabolism for the day so if there is ever a meal to over-eat it is at breakfast. :)

I would say that you should just be glad it was at breakfast since that is a good meal to splurge on as you will likely burn that off throughout the day and it will increase your metabolism.  If you go a little over, I wouldn't worry about it.

If you input your information (lifestyle, age, etc.) in your CC account, it will give you a suggested caloric intake.  That would be a good place to start.  Let me know how it goes.

Well I think CC sugggested 1500 I think, but I feel like at that rate, I would never lose weight. So, I put in 1300. Yesterday, I ended up having over 1600 calories, but I did run 3.5 miles. I had such a big breakfast and a super light lunch that by dinner I was starving. Then I ran, and I was still hungry so I ate anyways. I've only been on the 1300 cal diet for 5 days and yesterday was the only day I went over.

Hi melika08, you may want to try weight watchers 0 points soup, which in theory you can eat as much as you want in the weight watchers diet but I think it is 21 calories per cup. See recipe at:

Don't overthink about the calories, it may drive you too anxious and then you will want to eat a lot! Forgive yourself and back on track right now, one day with 1600-1700 calories won't do damage. And don't eat more just because you think this day is lost, it is not, try the soup. If you have no time for the soup, an omelet with vegetables and/or salad will be good. My best tip for losing weight is: don't eat anything after 8pm (or dinner should be your last meal if you eat later). I drink water with ice cubs when I have late night cravings. It helps.

A note on your 1300 calories, it does seem too low, it may be OK for a week or 2 to lose weight quickly for an event or so, but don't do it for too long.  Crash diets may work in a short run but you end up putting the pounds back, maybe more than you lost in the first place.  And it is good to eat in between meals, every 2-3 hours (about 100 calories) to keep your metabolism going.
