Help...I'm Lazy!
Hello. OK so last year I had joined the army and lost 3olbs in 4 months due to basic training. But then I got out of the army and now, a year later have gained 10lbs. My goal is another 30lbs, and I have absolutly no motivation. I know exactly what I need to do but I never seem to put it action.
My b/f is absolutely wonderful in supporting me, but it's also frustrating. He's one of those guys that can eat anything and doesn't gain an ounce, he also likes really crappy foods (hotdogs, cheesewhiz, chips etc). He has agreed to get rid of most of that stuff so it's not in the house. But even still I found myself lacking the motivation to eat properly and excercise. Especially excercise. I enjoy working out, but I never seem to go out an do it.
I hoping that you wonderful fellow dieters could give me some inspiration or wicked success stories to get my lazy butt to the gym. Thanks!
Hey,
I am totally lazy and haven't managed to change...so I have no good advice on how to change that. But if it helps I lost approx. 30 pounds without exercise! I just counted calories. Hope that helps!
Workout with a friend. make an appointment so that if you flake you both know that you did.
I'm really lazy too, I think it's the fact that I speant my hard earned money on a gym membership that really keeps me going. But what I found helped break out of the cycle of being lazy was picking up an active hobby that I always wanted to learn.
Maybe if you think of something you always wanted to learn, like ballroom dancing, or horseback riding, or surfing, or martial arts, something thats fun, but active, that you will want to go back to every week.
I suffered from that syndrome as well- then a friend of mine taught me the target system.
It's a pretty easy concept- you want to work-out more right? So you set yourself a
minimum target - target achieved- target exceeded each week.
At the moment my target ranges are as follows
Workout time in minutes per week (power walking, swimming, bike)
minimum: 360min
achieved: 420min
exceeded: 500min
at the end of the week depending on which target you achieved you get a reward:
My rewards are usually:
minimum: a cooking magazine
achieved: something cosmetic like a lipstick, nailpolish or special showergel (about $10.-)
exceeded: trip to see a movie
It's really important that the minimum target should always be a goal you know is attainable!

thanks for all your help. that target idea is great! i'm diffently going to try that out.
Start small. You would be suprised how much doing that can help. I do calorie count just because I like seeing how many calories I am saving myself. But, you wouldn't have to. Look at what you drink. How many calories does it have in it? My 16.9 oz Mt. Dews had 110 per serving The whole bottle was 230. Multiply that by 3 and I didn't have to eat anything to gain weight. Then I have a weakness for anything chocolate. Expecially the vanilla yogart Kisses. So I cut them out.
I only made two other changes I replaced the Mt. Dew with Diet Lipton White Tea. White Tea is suppose to help you lose weight and the diet version has no calories and doesn't use artifical sweetners but is still pretty dang sweet. In Diet I prefer the Peach over the Rasberry. Regular its Rasberry all the way and even then Im still being healthier because the regular teas still have 100 calories less than the Mt. Dew. Then I changed from ground beef to ground turkey but simply because its cheeper right now. It goes in spurts which is cheeper and I use which ever is cheeper. Oh, and I added in belly dancing because its fun. I use it to torture my husband. It gives him something else to drool over instead of his usual 10 pm snack of either ice cream or overly sugary cereal.
By doing that, Hubby has managed to lose 8 lbs in two weeks and I had lost 3. We will see sunday if I managed to keep it off. Im hoping the weight gain I've had was just because its that time of the month.
When I am feeling a little lazy, I just walk. I walk away from my house for 20-30 minutes or so, then I turn around and come back. When you walk away from your house, you always have to walk back. So you can kind of trick yourself into doing more. It helps to have a friend with you. You can talk to that person while you walk, and you may even lose track of time. Before you know it, you'll have been walking for an hour or more.
When you start to see results, it may motivate you even more.
Good luck!
