so i have been eating around 1200 calories a day and i found out that is probably why my weight loss has slowed down. so i was wondering if i was to go up to or above 1500  a day will i gain any weight? i have also been excercising atleast 30 minutes a day. usually that consist of squats, lunges, running in place with 10 pound weights and sit ups. should i cut this out if im not eating more than that? sorry im not very well informed about these things. im just a little worried im not going about things the right way. i would also like to reach my target weight by july.
thanx for any help.

how much you should eat is based on who you are (weight, height, age, gender) - if you provide those things, people will have a better idea of how to advise you.

but in general, i would never recommend cutting out exercise so that you can eat less. increasing exercise so that you can eat more is always a better idea, and you'll be happier for it.

I am going to assume you are a woman if you are taking in so little calories.  However, if you are doing 30 minutes of cardio per day, you are burning some calories.  So, in no way should you be eating as little as 1200 on a day you do 30 minutes of exercise.  Doesn't matter what your stats are.

alright im around 240 pounds at 6'2, male, 25 years of age.

as for eating more i just dont think i could.  i feel like i wasnt eating much more than its saying i should eat back when i was about 100 pounds heavier.
the only difference would be the minimal amount of excercise i do.  that makes it tough for me to feel like i should consume close to 3000 calories a day.
Oh my. I am not expert enough at CC to do all this.  You need to eat food.  I will leave the rest of the advice up to the others.
I will say this though...according to here you should take in 2,050 calories per day WITHOUT any exercise at a sedentary lifestyle.  Take it from there.

i could probably handle that much of an increase in my calorie intake without feeling so bad. i really wanted to know what kind of an effect it was going to have on me when i did.
I wouldn't be too concerned of what affect it will have on you.  You should though be concerned about what only 1,200 calories a day is doing to your metabolism, organs and muscles.

alright thanx for all your help. i will try and fix this problem before it becomes more of a problem.
I def. think you should increase you cals.  if you've already lost 100 lbs, congrats by the way, then you're metabolism is probably slowing down.  I'm a woman, 5'5 and 145lbs, I want to loose 10lbs.  I eat 1200 cals every other day, and the alternate days about 1500 cals.  I exercise 5-6 days a week.  hope this gave you an idea! :-)
your body is probably going into stavation mode because of such little calories. its says males should eat AT LEAST 1500 calories a day
have you had any weight loss with that method yet. i am 5'0" and 135, want to lose 20 and i excercise 5 to 6 days a week 20min. to 45min. of treadmill, yoga twice a week and some strength training. i eat about 1500 cals a day of healthy food and i have only lost 2 pounds in the last 2 weeks.

You HAVE to eat to lose weight.

You HAVE to eat to lose weight.

For someone your size I would eat no less than 1800 - 2000 calories a day. Without the calories you will not burn fat. In fact you will burn lean mass (part of the reason why you've dropped 100 lbs.) which weighs 3 times as much as fat. The problem is you will get to a point where weight loss becomes nearly impossible because your metabolism is so suppressed.

What you should be focusing on is eating 1800 - 2000 calories, spread out in numerous meals / snacks throughout the day. Getting aerobic exercise for 30 minutes a day, and since you are a young male you need to do anaerobic weight training at least 3 times a week. This could simply be at-home dumbbell exercises or it can be a full gym workout. Either way you are going to increase strength, and even more vital, increase your metabolism the entire day.

The trick to good and permanent weight loss is to INCREASE your metabolism, not suppress your calorie intake. Just watch what you eat, get good protein, and get pumped!

Everyone is right about upping the intake. I'm a 6 foot tall woman and I'm to take in about 1800 a day to lose weight.  It is a challenge for me, not because I can't eat, but because I'm on a vegan diet, and most things are low in calories.  But I work at eating as much as I can.  Once I upped it from 1500 the weight started coming off  a little faster, but nothing is going to happen overnight. good luck.

You WILL loose weight if you stop STRAVING your body.

You are a healthy young man and at even 1800 to 2100 you will loose weight with 30 mins a day serious exercise.  assuming you walk around a bit this actually puts you in the active catagory not sedentary.  I am twice your size, I have arthritis so alternate between sednetary and mildly active on workout days and I am losing weight at 1800 to 2100 calories and I might even be taking in a tad too little.

Make darn sure you are getting enough protein, especially before and after workouts.

If you are so worried about weight gain then raise your calories slowly, go up to 1500 for a week and see how you feel DONT WORRY about weight gain for the first few weeks let your body aclimate, then work up to 2000 you will probably feel better and you will see loss.
