HELP!!!! Not loosing weight yet!

Quote  |  Reply

I hate to seem impatient, but I've been staying under my calories (and I excercise regularly) since July 11th and I haven't lost a single pound......why would this be my situation and has anyone else experienced this?  What could I be doing wrong?

what are your stats?

what do you mean?

age/weight/height/how much u eating?  Are you exercising....those are stats :)

First off, I would say to implement a workout routine that combines weight training with cardio. High intensity interval training will help drop the weight.  Drink lots of water and keep your sodium level in check.  Dieting since the 11th isn't a long time.  Give it a few weeks.  Good Luck!

52 age           136 weight      5'0"        ;  and I take step classes regularly.  I'm eating under 1200 each day, and am getting straight "A's"   I don't get it...

Can you tell me what maximum sodium level, ball park should be for the day?

Under 1200 calories is NOT a good idea....ESPECIALLY if you are exercising...

i am also 5'0" and I eat 1350 when I dont exercise, and more if I do exercise.

also it takes a bit more time to see results....

sodium should be under 2400 mg a day I believe....

I don't think you are eating enough. How about your water intake? Do you have any medical conditions?

You should never eat less than 1200 calories, you're going to wreck your metabolism, especially with the added exercise!

relax, it's only been 6 days

Wow, thanks for all of the information.  I will raise my calories, can you loose weight on 1350?  No medical conditions.     I'm going to check on my sodium, I probably need to keep an eye on that.  Thank all of you so much for the tips!

And now I will wait.

1) You're short at 5' nothing, 2) You're 50, 3) You're female, and 4) You're 136#

Your BMR is 1200.  If you're exercising like you are, you shouldn't be eating less than your BMR, espeically since you're closing in on your goal weight.  The closer to you get to your goal, the more carefully you have to monitor your calorie deficit.  Aim for something ~500-700 cal/day.  On the days you work out, you need to eat more.

Secondly at 136 pounds, try this.  Drink 70 ounces of water for the next few days and see if you don't flush some water weight.  That's not tea or milk or juice or diet soda.  That's water.  If you are packing sodium, that will help you get rid of it.

What about the water LEELEE, are you drinking your 64oz daily? If you aren't you're retaining it from everything else you eat or drink causing the scale to not budge.

All I can say is I have been eating 1200 calories, did kettlebell 3 hours a week for 3 months, then started pilates, and I never shed a single pound or inches for that matter!!! I went to the doctor who after doing blood work and some other tests found I am in excellent shape and should be losing weight. And he agreed my BMI isn't healthy. That being said I am on my second day using Phentermine. I used to think diet pills were just an easy way out so people didn't have to work at losing weight, but now I know that some of us just can't lose weight no matter what we do. Sometimes we just need a little extra help. So if after following this website's guidelines for a healthy diet, and doing your regular exercises you still don't see results...talk to your doctor if it is really bothering you.

I am also short 5'1 46yrs old and new to this site. I've done the whole yo-yo thing for years and have recently gotten serious about getting healthy. I am obese @ 198lbs and have been for a while. I've been reading alot of information here. I have started with a 4 mile challenge "walk off the weight" cd (4miles approx 50mins) I do each day, keep my calorie intake to between 1300-1400 and make sure to drink 2qts of water each day. The first week was great lost 5lbs. I'm mid 2nd week and going strong. I would like to ask someone to explain what is meant by "calorie deficit" . Also opinions on weather its better to do a 4 mile walk in 50mins or a walk/jog combo in 30 mins. I thought probably at this point the longer I'm exercising each day would be better than higher intensity for less time. What do you think? Thanks for the help.

RE: 1200 calories, that could be exactly the reason you are not losing weight.  If you go below approximately 1200 calories your body goes into starvation mode meaning it will save every last little scrap of energy it can get.  Your body will actually change the natural chemical reactions to burn energy more slowly making it difficult to burn a significant amount of weight since your body wants to hold on to it.

The goal is to burn more calories than you take in.  You don't need to limit your caloric intake to do so.

Good luck & stay with it.

its prob coz your not eating enough, although ive been havig the same problem this week. iv been really good and its the first week which you normally do quite well in, but i havent lost even a pound! :s im gonna go with the whole muscle weighs more than fat thing since i sarted jogging this week and i put on muscle quite quickly. are your clothes feeling looser though? sometimes in a week you lose inches instead of pounds!
