Help! Not losing. What do you eat?

Quote  |  Reply
I have been counting calories for about 2 weeks now, I usually try to eat around 1300 a day, I am 24 and 160lbs.  This site recommended that I eat 1550 a day, but I thought I would try a little less to lose more weight.  I havent lost a single pound and I am getting discouraged and want to quit.  Maybe I am not eating the right things?

I was wondering what some of you eat in a typical day. Thanks in advance!

use the tools on this site to calculate what you should eat and exercise etc and you will lose.

maybe by undercutting you will not lose as your body is hanging on to what you are putting in
Maybe when you first start, you should eat as much as the website says. Then try cutting back when you hit a plateau.
Are you exercising?
maybe u need longer than 2 weeks, mine took up to a month
It seems logical that to lose weight faster just keep cutting your calories. This really could not be further from the truth. Any time you go into calorie deficit your body thinks it must preserve your fat for the bad times that are indicated by the drop in caloric intake. So, it tries to hang on to what its got. You, therfore, are accomplishing exactly the opposite of your goal. In my reasearch, nutritionists and reputable weight loss coaches all agree that small deficits are the sure and safe way to go. If you will continue to do your research you will find that your body will start responding if you will determine your maintenance (allowance tool on this site) calories and dropping 500 calories or 20% of your maintenance level. This will not signal to your body that you are in the midst of a famine and the body will then beging to make the adjustments that will allow you to lose weight.

Why listen to anything I say? I have been at this since December of 2005 and have lost 135 lbs to date with another 10-15 to go.

PS. You will not lose weight every day or even every week. Weight loss is a complicated (for the body) process and it takes time.

Good luck.
