HELP losing weight fast...please read i know its long (sorry!!)
Sex: Female Age: 18 Height: 5'7
In November 2008 I was 67.5 KG - Janurary 2009 I NOW am 58.5 KG
Thats like 18 lbs
Since the beginning of November 2008 I had been going to the gym and trying to lose weight i was about 67.5 KG in the past two months ive been dieting and ive been exercising usually non stop and im much more fit and healthier i dont binge out on junk food all day (heaps of lollies and sugary cereal) or sit on the couch like a bum and eat all day to be honest i didnt know what fruits and veggies were before i went on my diet!! anywayss i do remember i did a few first dAys of really low caloire meals until i realised that i was getting sick so then i moved onto 1000 caloires and now i know that thats also bad so now im usually within the range of 1200 - 1400 calories and i burn around 500 and i feel alot better too so now im just concerned is the weight ive lost because ive chosen a healthier lifestyle or am i just losing water and muscle weight and will i gain all the weight back and maybe more? cos ive heard that fast weight loss results in gaining it all back and maybe even MORE!!! : ( and also if i ate the foods i love (healthy like quiche, pita bread pizza, etc.) will i gain all the weight back but if i still continue to exercise?
at what point did you change up to 1000 kcal and how much were you eating before. and then when did you go up to 1200-1400? if you were eating below 1200 for a while you may indeed have lost muscle. you may have compensated this with the working out though- were you doing weight?
beyond that i think you would have most probably entered starvation mode- i'm nt an expert onthis so i would be interested to see what people who have possibly had experiance with this themselves say- but i'd venture a guess that if you were to up your calories to your maintenance level, which wuld be considerably more than you are eating now given your height and activity level- you would gain weight due to the prolonged starvation- however you may just have to do this to get your metabolism back to where it should be.
are you putting on weight while eating your 1400? cos if you're not or even still losing then you might be lucky and not messed up your metabolism. however you need to check your bmr with all that exercise- you may still not be eating enough and hence still technically be in starvation mode and then your back to the first problem. in which case you may just have to up your calories to a healthy range and see how your body respnds- its such a personel thing-it may be worth the initial gain to regain you metabolism!
well i did it for about 1 week but then i couldnt anymore, uhh now im still losing weight and im feeling full most of the time but like i said i try to eat low gi foods mainly cos i dont wanna be eating all day even though i break my meals down to 6 small meals a day and i have water with me constantly..but yea like i said im still losing slower but not as slow as i expected. i hope this helps:) thanks for your answer.
The problem is that you're 18. The calculators on CC are designed for the over 21s so they'll be out by about 300 - 400 cals a day for you. You're losing weight too fast because you're eating far too little. Increase your intake to 2200-2400 for a week to stabilise your weight or even regain slightly. Then, if you still think you need to lose, go no lower than 1800.
Any lbs you lose rapidly in a crash diet (even if it's unintentional) will come back very rapidly and probably bring a few friends along into the bargain. So halt the crash diet process a.s.a.p.... get some good nutrition for a while and then control your weight much more gently from that point.
By my calculations you are at a BMI of 20. You are already at the low end of a healthy range. Your stats indicate that a 1700 calorie a day diet would maintain your current weight if you didn't exercise.
Your plan is very similar to my own. I try to create a 500 calorie a day drop through what I eat. I also try to burn an additional 500 calories through exercise. At the end of the week on average, I have burned 7000 calories which means I should loose 2 pounds per week. Does this happen week to week? NOOOOOO!!! On a month to month basis yes, it averages out. With you being a female and subject to hormonal changes throughout the month, weight fluctuations come with the territory. You may wish to start monitoring your body fat and body measurements as well. That will help with whatever information the scale is telling you. The mirror on the wall and how your clothes fit are also helpful tools.
Having exercise as part of you plan is great. Make sure you do resistance exercises (weight lifting, swimming, calinestenics, etc.) for muscle development. This keeps the pounds/kilos off. Also cardio is important as well, this helps take them off. Just remember when you replace fat with muscle, the scale won't budge! However, your body fat percentage will. That is why I say it is important to monitor body fat. As a female, you don't want to go below a 17% body fat percentage. Fat is a tool for your body and your body values fat over muscle because it uses fat for hormone production. If you body fat goes to low, your hormone levels get screwed up and this will tend to mess up brain and other functions as well.
The bottom line as I see it is by the picture you posted, you are quite a cutie and any gentleman should be very happy to be seen with you! Don't loose any more weight, you will loose all those beautiful curves the good Lord gave you. Focus your diet on getting sound nutrition to make sure your body gets all the nutrients and vitamins it needs for optimum health and function, keep up the exercises and it will all fall into place!
Sorry for being so long winded - Best Wishes!
