Think about your health. That must be very important to you.
Write down for yourself: "your key motivation to stop smoking last year".
Secondly, you should write down (yes, you have to) all your associations with smoking. You named one big one "booze"; make a list, with the following entries: time of day, what were you doing (association!), did you really like this smoke or not.
After a week, come back here to discuss a method and a date to quit smoking forever.
Hang in there, Mel
Have you read Allen Carr's Easy Method. If not you should! I know so many people that quit with it....

Well, I have Alan Carr's booklet from 1999, titled "Easy way to Stop Smoking". Now, think about this title for a minute... There is no easy way to quit smoking. IT IS HARD WORK!
Well, I quit 2,5 weeks ago and did find it easy....of course, I have had moments when I would normally smoke, and then I think "man I sure am glad that I don't need to"....the more I am around the smell, and trust me in Germany and working at a company where EVERYBODY smokes it is I am around it alo, the easier I find it...so I disagree...it is not that hard.
But yeah, as a smoker you think it is crazy hard...the tobacco industry builds on that too...they want ex-smokers to tell smokers about HOW HARD it was...so that the smokers stay in the ADDICTION! I can only speak about my personal experience and thoght it was EASY. I am not fooling myself either, and realize that the mental ADDICTION is a huge thing to overcome, but with the right mindset I find that task EASY
Try buying a bag of suckers. Every time you want a you know what... grab a sucker and find something to occupy your time. Read a book, go online(I find this keeps me from thinking about it as I become so sidetracked. Watch a movie. Or instead of that try exercising. And keep a bottle of water handy as it will give you something to do with your hands and mouth.
COMMIT lozenges! I will tell as many people as possible! I tried everything and some had been "successful", but this is the first time it hasn't been miserable and I have comfort knowing if I am to the point of going to buy "you know whats", I have lozenges!! And they work.
Anyway, hope it helps!
