Help! Mexican Night!
I have been going out to eat WAY too much lately with my boyfriend...but tonight is one of our friends birthdays and his dinner is at mexican restaurant...and it's not 'fresh' ingredients either (if you know what I mean)
What should I order...they have EVERYTHING when it comes to mexican food. I jsut need help, I have gone way over my limit...i want to at least maintain. but most of all keep it healthy!
The best rule of thumb in any restaurant is to choose as many things as possible that are vegetable-based. And the flip-side is to avoid the things that are 'creamy', 'cheesy', 'deep-fried' etc....
Salads make a great starter in any restaurant.... Fajitas (minus the dollopy sour cream and guacamole) are usually quite healthy. Share with a friend if the plate arrives and it's silly-size portions. Best of luck.
As far as I know, the fajitas are about the lowest calories, if you skip the cheese and sauer cream. Just fill up your shells with a little meat filling and a ton of lettuce, tomato and taco sauce and I bet you could eat 2 or 3 without doing too much damage. Make up for it tomorrow. Watch out for the taco salad in the crunchy bowl. It's a calorie bomb. You can be sure from the start that with any meal they will serve you way too much, so a good trick would be to get a take out box and put some away before it gets tempting. Your friends will be amazed at your determination.
I second the Fajitas but even those can be greasy if made from a whole in the wall grease fest mexican place.
What's the name of this restaurant? Sometimes reading through the online menu can help a TON.
Some places have salads you can dub down. Or if you SEE something else with "grilled chicken" on it, you could ask for a substitution. And NEVER be afraid to call and talk to someone at the restaurant. Just inform them you have "low fat dietary needs" and would like some menu suggestions.
one of my favorites is tacos de carne asada, basically corn tortillas, grilled beef steak, pico, lime and cilantro. Not sure if this mexican place has it, but I have found corn tortillas tend to be lower in calories than flour.
Wow thanks guys! I always tried to keep away from fajaitas because they looked so bubbly and greasy.
Thanks so much for the help!!!
How often should you eat during the day?
It is neither necessary to eat every two hours nor to stop eating at 6:00 PM. As long as your calorie intake is less than your output... Read more
