Help a nanny out!
Hey,
I'm not pregnant but my boss is, and she's being induced tomorrow morning! I've never been through this process before so I was hoping some of you might be of help. When you were at the hospital (either before, during, or after labor), was there anything you wished you had with you but forgot to pack in your bag? Some little comfort from home or overlooked toiletry? I'd like to be overprepared and hopefully earn a few brownie points by thinking of something before she knows that she needs or wants it! Just as an example here are a few things I'm bringing already:
1. New toothbrush and toothpaste
2. Lightweight robe to wear instead of the yucky hospital gown
3. A picture of her 2 year old son to keep by her bedside when he can't be there
Any suggestions would be helpful:)
a nursing bra (if she will be nursing)....
slippers (with a non-slippery sole)....
something comfy to wear home....
bra and comfy clothes are already packed but I hadn't thought of slippers.....!thanks:)
The one thing I wanted when in labor was to have the labor stop and go home! Ah well, cant stop mother nature.
I wanted creature comforts...my makeup bag and hairbrush. It all depends on what kind of woman your boss is.
A bottle of water
Something to keep her cool, like one of those mist efforts or a mini fan
Possibly some reading material in case it all takes a long time to happen
Mobile phone (or Cell phone if you are American ;-) ) and charger
A camera
baby stuff (romper suits, nappies, cotton balls, talcum powder, hat, mittens etc)
breast pads
Some light snacks for afterwards to build up strength
Good luck!!
food lol but since I was not allowed to have any during labor I settled for suckers, my favorites are the jolly rancher ones.
Also big warm fuzzy socks that have the rubber grips on the bottom.
A good book I was in the hospital for longer than ecpected and I got tired of tv.
Maybe a disposable camera for her son to use to take pictures?
My own Shampoo, soaps and lotions.
I need detangler for my hair becuase labor gave me some serious bedhead tangles. (I have long (mid back) thick hair, a nurse afterward braided it for me afterward but I never would have imagined the tangles lol)
tennis shoes - I did some serious walking when I was in labor, I had left straight from work to go to the hospital so I had DH bring my tennis shoes.
Comfy outfit for going home.
This is not for the hospital but my mom and grandma clenaed my house from head to toe, it was so nice to come home to a clean house.
Also maybe make some freezer dinners, soups, chilies, cassaroles that can be frozen so all sh ehas to do is oull it out heat it up.
i was so touched with my daughter's birth my SIL bought me a pretty white cotton night gown. i felt so yucky and i liked having something pretty and loose to put on. she also brought playing cards to the hospital which was great casues i had a nice 4 hour lull in the action.
I guess it depends what you're comfortable sleeping in, personally, I'm a jammie girl, so my husband brought in my biggest, comfy-est jammies for me to wear. It was wonderful, I didn't feel uncomfortable because I wasn't feeling 1/2 naked
Also, LIP BALM! My lips were chapped something fierce from the recycled air that they pump in.
Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions! Alexander Paxson was born today at 5:56 pm weighing in at 6 lbs 8 oz and measuring at 19 in. Both mommy and baby are fine:)
