Help! I Need new breakfast foods!

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, so I need some ideas on what to eat for breakfast. For about a month now I've had the same thing for breakfast everyday. An egg sandwhich which was made with,

1 thomas's light multi grain english muffin

1/2 peice of american cheese

1 egg

I need some other things to eat that are relativly low in calories, will hold me for a few hours, and can be made quickly.

Also I'm a vegitarian so no meat.

hey, you could try cereal. brankflakes has very little calories. organic is the best! u could also try weetabix. it'll last you the morning (even if you don't have a snack in between!).

hope this helps

i am not a huge breakfast eater, but two things that I like are Ezekial 4:9 flourless whole grain english muffins with about a tsp of peanut butter on it, along side a good portion of fruit, and I also enjoy Kellogs Special K Berries, which holds me for a bit.
Not sure what foods you like and dislike, but here are some suggestions.

  • whole grain waffles
  • instant oatmeal or cream of wheat (if you like it)
  • yogurt with fresh fruit on top
  • yogurt with granola on top
  • cottage cheese with fruit
  • homemade smoothie
  • boiled egg with toast

oats which have been cooked, with 4 egg whites stirred through the oats, cooked with a little bit of oil or whatever you want then you have oat pancakes. which keep me going for like half a day and can be served with fruit, cinnamon or whatever.
My fav breakfast is: 4-5 egg whites with 1 cup chopped zucchini, 1/4 cup red bell pepper, 2 tbsp. chopped onion, and maybe a 1/2 cup frozen spinach. Saute veggies until tender, then add egg whites and scramble. Top with a small amount of shredded cheese. The whole meal is like 100 cals and keeps me full til lunch.
For a quick breakfast I like:

Dannon light n fit yogurt (6 oz = 60 cals) with 1/4 cup GoLean Crunch.

1/2 cup egg beates in two LTF tortillas

Shaheen, I just tried Weetabix for the first time this week.  Seemed to need a little flavor boost.  I usually have some kind of fruit with cereal, but it was still a bit bland.  Any suggestions?

Also, have you ever tried heating it up (after it gets soft, of course)?

Thanks!

In response to Ahmad, here are the ingredients to the Ezekial 4:9 100% Flourless Sprouted Whole Grain English Muffins:

Organic sprouted wheat, filtered water, organic malted barley, organic sprouted rye, organic sprouted oats, organic sprouted millet, organic sprouted corn, organic sprouted  brown rice, fresh yeast and sea salt.

After typing this, I realize I could have ommitted a lot of effort on my part by leaving out "organic" lol.  I don't necessarily try to do everything organic, but these muffins are very tasty and fill you up.  One serving is a half a muffin.
when Im in a rush I do luna bars and actually this morning I tried a new bar (new to me anyways) called think thin. its something like 280 calories...kinda high, but the lunas are only 180 and very good...when Im not rushed I do oatmeal...yummy!
I slice and marinate a whole block of firm tofu then bake it. I put it in the fridge and then grab a few pieces along with some fruit from breakfast. You can eat it hot or cold and it's full of protein and low in fat.

Once in awhile I'll have a 7 hour breakfast. I call it that because I'm so full I can't eat for 7 hours afterwards.

One serving of steel cut oatmeal w/ 2 tablespoons of flaxseed,

2 tablespoons of dried fruit(no raisins, they raise the glycemic making you want to eat again)

1 serving of a high protein drink made with soy.

The combination of good, low glycemic carbs and high protein keep you going for hours.
Think outside the breakfast box. One of my favorites is rice and beans, usually left over from dinner. I also like tofu and veggies, fruit, etc. I need more calories in the morning, so I have a heavier breakfast and a lighter lunch, so I often eat foods that aren't typical breakfast foods.

i was going to write exactly what hak wrote.  have you tried potatoes and veggie bacon/chicken strips/pepperoni?  how about cottage cheese warmed up w/tomato sauce, you can dip soy crisps in it.  hummus on your egg&cheese.  a tempeh burger/lentil burger that you homemake (there are great recipes online).  how about a soup w/seaweed and scrambled egg and rice/beans (sort of like an egg drop)?

personally i'm a rice cake fanatic.  hopefully one day i'll get tired of them and start thinking outside the box too.  good luck getting some variety!

One Dannon Light n Fit yogurt plus 1/2 cup Fiber One mixed in plus half grapefruit on the side = 170 calories

My two favorites:

1st either whole wheat english muffin, whole wheat bagel, or whole wheat toast... toasted with Adams all Natural Peanut Butter

Or

Quacker Steel Oats, with ff milk, splenda, and half a fist full of raisins... great for those cold winter months!

All of these are YOU approved and they have helped me drop 25 pounds.  I feel that it helps keep hunger and cravings down.

The traditional Asian breakfast is soup. Maybe try a nice hot bowl of miso soup in the morning. It can be quite filling and lo-cal.
I have a blog mini-spoons.blog.com with lots of breakfast ideas (click on the side, ignore the posts, its on hiatus at the mo)
I dont usually have meat, altho i think i have one egg and ham thing. So just use tomato slices instead.
Sometimes to mix up my normal oatmeal routine, I have a milkshake instead!!  My favorie version is:

1 cp milk (100 cal), 1 banana (100 cal), 3/4 cup frozen blueberries (60 cal), and 1 tbsp cocoa powder (12 cal)

Tip:  blend the banana and blueberries with 1/4 cup milk to thoroughly chop up the blueberries, then whip it up with the rest of the milk and cocoa.

Delicious!
1 cup of cocoa puffs (120), a cup of skim milk (86) [ my breakfast when i'm on the run] = 206
if you have more time:
1 slice of raisin bread (100) OR two slices of whole wheat bread (140), 1 tbsp of promise buttery spread (32-50 cals), skim milk (86)
[I'm a milk addict] = 236-276 cals

oatmeal! = 100, with milk = around 200 (depending on which milk you use to make it)
1 light yogurt (100) + 2oz granola (100) + banana (100) [in or outside of the yogurt]

you can always substitute the banana for any other fruit. an apple would be around 50 cals.

---
and then theres always the whole egg + piece of toast + fruit + milk for a heavy 250-400 cals.

o.o..now I'm hungry
