Hello and welcome Krystal.
The best way to start your new life style is to add things.  Add an extra veggie, a whole grain, a lean protein, a healthy fat, a new fruit.  Even add a walk around the block.
By adding things to your lifestyle you are more likely to stick with it.
Diets take things away from you that you love.
A new lifestyle adds to your life and makes you healthy.

Don't worry so much about reducing your fat stores the first month.  It is better to learn new habits at first.
Start out by making a plan.  Plan your meals, make a grocery list from that plan.
Plan an exercise, even if it is just a walk around the block, pencil it in at a certain time each day and keep that appointment with yourself, just as you would a doctor's appointment.

Good luck on your journey.  I can usually be found around here at weird hours if you want to chat I am usually off and on here all day.

Thanks for the info, I have never thought about everything being taken aways and addind new to my life. This is my first diet but I also don't want to look at it as a diet I want it to teach me how to eat without over eating or eating with emotions, because those are the only ways I know how to eat right now. I have added you as a buddy so I hope to be chatting again with you in the future.

Yeah I thought the same way as well three years ago.  Depriving yourself sets you up for yoyoing and that is bad.
I have put thirty pounds behind me by changing my thinking.  I added things to my lifestyle and without even realizing it the bad habits were disappearing on their own.
I won't think of it as losing fat.  A friend told me that when you lose things you keep searching until you find them again.  I don't want to find that thirty pounds ever again.  Instead I am releasing my fat stores.  It takes a while to get use to thinking like this, but it works.
I eat 80% healthy whole foods, 10% not so bad foods and 10% pure junk food.
Today I raided my daughter's fridge and got into her ice-cream and caramel sauce.
Most days my junk food is just coffee though.

Thanks, spoiled candy, for the response to Krystal.  I never put it into words before, but your suggestion was exactly what I did.  In January 08, I added more movement into my life.  That, and some moderate portion control allowed me to lose about 10 pounds.  Then, at the end of March, I found CC, and logging my intake and keeping a small calorie deficit has allowed me to drop another 40 pounds.  I still have lots to go, but have never felt like I was "on a diet" or giving up foods I really love.  I still have a glass of wine regularly, and the odd gooey ripe French cheese.  I watch the portions, and log religiously, and am slowly releasing weight on what is only slightly below the calorie requirement for my goal weight.  If we add movement and healthy food choices, the only thing we really have to give up is our body fat -- which we don't want anyway!

Hi Krystal.
I too live in Utah.  SO you are not alone here on CC.   This is such a great tool.  It helped me to understand portion size and how healthy food can be.  Once I started logging my food (and being Honest!) I really understood that the choices I make really do have an impact.  CC is a great visual for those of us who need it. And the moral support ROCKS!

Good luck on your journey!
