Hi Lauren, you seem to have an addiction problem ("snow caps and gummy bears"", your bio says). Like for any addiction, you need to be honest with yourself. It's you feeding yourself unhealthy stuff; I would not call it food, it's poison! Sugar really is poison to your body, so quit consuming it. You know it is in your mindset.

I quit smoking 6 years ago. The method I used, could well be applicable for your addiction to sugar:

  • record (eg. on sheet of paper, then in CC at the end of the day):
    • what and how much you eat, time of day,
    • why you are taking it and
    • whether you really liked it, or not
  • record your exercises, workouts, and the like (walking, running, biking, swimming, ....
  • record your weight on a weekly basis, eg. on Monday (, rather than every day)
  • do the above for two weeks and get back to us, here
  • find yourself a group in your neighborhood for a weight loss challenge

Mel

You're welcome. I've entered your personal data in a 'calculator' (Tools menu, select calorie target). I assumed you want to go from 142 to 135 (-7) lbs with minimal activity. The result is, and I quote:

"You should consume about 1,279 calories a day to reach your goal weight of 135 lbs This is at a reasonable weight loss average of 1 lbs per week, which should be reached by August 30, 2009.

Experts recommend weight loss at the rate of 0.5-2 lbs/week. Remember that this estimate is based on your body weight, height, age, gender, and activity level. It may vary slightly depending on other factors.

Generally, women should not consume any less than 1,200 calories per day, and men should not consume less than 1,500 calories per day."

Start logging and get back in two weeks time.

Cheers, Mel

hello again

at first this was really working for me. but ever since soccer camp my eating habits have come back. im 138 pounds now how can i get back on track and focused? in the beginning of the day i do well...simple breakfast cereal and a piece of fruit...around 1030 a granola bar and a yougurt or something...at 2 another snack...but after soccer practice which is from 2:30 to 5:30 i come home and just want to relax for an hour, hour and a half...in that time i can eat up to 2000 calories! i really am trying to catch myself ahead of time before i put on weight and so i can start losing some again....im a siz 6 and would really just be perfect with being a size 4. you helped so well the first time, just wondering if u had anymore advice?

Hello Lauren, with soccer practice I think you'll need extra calories. What do eat right after practice and do you drink enough water? You should try hard to limit your snack to fresh fruit from practice to dinner time. You'll feel some much better, I am sure.

Besides the daily calories, you should focus on a balance in your food: that is, protein, carbs and fat. Also look at your vitamins and minerals. You'll find the information you need right here on this site. Do read the nutrition labels on the food products.

You are still in your growth, as well. Size 4 will be hard to get back.

Best regards, Mel
