HELP PLEASE Orthostatic hypotension???
Hi this may be long but I will try to keep it short. Starting a few months ago I would get hot weak dizzy and lose my vision. The week of Halloween I did it 3 times and went to the ER. I was in the hospital for 4 days and they said my BP was low like the 60 to 80 over 40 to 50 range. I also have MS and they thought that it was a autonomic dysfunction from brain to heart so I get to eat a lot of salt(yuck) take water retention and other meds to bring it up. Also lovely Jobst stockings that go to the top of my thigh they I need a crow bar to get on.
I have had Ms for 12 years and everything has been great for the last 8 thank God.
Anyway, I went to a new neuro yesterday and he was looking over my files and noticed in about a year I lost 50 lbs. He asked if i was trying to lose weight and I said yes. He made me take off my shirt and said that I did it to rapidly because I have good stomach muscles in the middle and I guess my sides have lost the muscle. I thought I weighed about 135 which is what i want but his scale said I was 131. I am 5'10'. He now is making me see a nutritionist. I am really freaking out about this. I think he is implying I have an ED, which I don't think I have but I guess it would be better to deal with that than with a permanent brain dysfunction with my heart. Has anyone ever done this or had these symptoms w or w/0 Ms? I would so appreciate any advice because I love this community and you are all so great!!
Thanks and blessings,
Jenny
I gotta be honest with you - I only have problems with orthostatic hypotension when I am losing weight too quickly and spiraling into anorexia.
Your body may not be very happy you lost 50 lbs quickly and is reacting by not being able to hold a decent blood pressure when you stand up.
I wouldn't mess around with dieting anymore, you probably aren't eating enough and need to increase calories gradually. Your weight will settle where it is meant to be NOT where you may think it should be. You've already got an autoimmune disease, don't do anything to make it worse!
most women that i know with MS are actually overweight. probably their mobility is limited by the severity of their MS.
definitely losing weight too quick with do it.
i recently have had issues with orthostatic hypotension. i almost passed out at the grocery the other day. my pressure has always been low 90/60. i guess i haven't had much thirst and have been becoming quite dehydrated without knowing it.
since this, i have been drinking more water, pedialyte and incorporated more broths and liquids in my food choices.
oh, and are they checking your blood glucose?
Thanks guys- I am on med to retain water and fluid and eating soups alot. I still can excercise and walk alot. I was doing 3 hours on the stair climber!! Thanks for your opinions and helping
