Help with protein
I need help. I'm eating far too many carbs (read fruits, veggies, whole grains); they end up being about 2/3 of my daily intake. Here's the issue: I'm allergic to nuts and highly sensitive to legumes (read beans), and I don't like meat (including fish and shellfish, to which I am allergic). Is there ANYTHING left? I have a protein shake, but it's got a lot of carbs in it, too!
If anybody can come up with anything, I'd be eternally grateful.

Eggs
Wow, you're really limited. Either you are going to have to eat at least some poultry or just have a higher carb diet, which can still be low calorie if you emphasize vegetables. The big worry is if you develop a nutritional deficiency.
How do you feel about eggs and dairy products? Fat free cottage cheese has a good bit of protein, and egg whites are high protein, fat free.
Ah, I love eggs! And cottage cheese. I don't know why I don't think of them more often. Thanks!
Look for dried egg white &/or whey concentrate to make your own shake, then you can control carb content. Can you eat yogurt? Greek style yogurt (strained to remove some of the whey) is a good source of protein, so is quinoa, the only grain I know of that is a complete protein. How are you sensitive to legumes? All legumes? If it's gas, try Beano.
Thanks opanci; yogurt is good, but it gets old after a while. That's been my primary source of protein for years. I've never heard of quinoa, I'll have to hunt for some. When I eat legumes, for the rest of the night it feels like I swallowed a mouth full of razors, so yeah, I'm pretty sensitive.
in addition to the above, what about kashi go lean cereal? One serving has 13 g of protein... its still a carb but it at least has a good protein content.
Hi
Have you thought about tofu
What kind of protein shake are you drinking that has high carbs? Is it one of those post work-out shakes? How about trying low carb whey protein?
Besides tofu, you could add soybeans to your salad and drink some soy milk. Also try feta cheese.
How low are you trying to bring your carbs? Are you shooting for 40/30/30 (C/P/F)?
Other than that, well I'm a meat eater. I can keep my carbs under 15% by eating meals made of beef, chicken, pork, turkey, shrimp, fish, vegetables, olive oil and cheese.
Good luck.
beef jerky, cottage cheese, fage yogurt...google protein and im sure you will find a ton of suggestions. There are also ways to up the protein content in foods like pancakes, etc
Amaranth and things baked with amaranth flour. Had to add that.
Chicken, Eggs, Hemp Seeds (but this is also a carb & fat)... Yea, that's pretty much it! ha ha. I would DIE if I couldn't eat seafood!!!
Hey you could try looking into soy products. Veggie sandwiches. Soy milk has a lot of protein, peanut butter, tuna fish, tofu. There are many options for someone like you, you just have to get creative. Good luck. (But I do suggest trying to eat some chicken or turkey once in a while...can't go wrong with that.)![]()
oooopsss did I put tuna fish for the girl allergic to fish. LOL!!! My bad. LOL!
So I guess that means soy products are out? You can find quinoa at health food stores and online. It's pronounced "keen-wa". Add it to soups, make a breakfast cereal out of it, mix it in with anything else you are cooking, add cooked to a salad, etc. Google has recipes to try. It cooks very fast. Good luck!
How can I make walking fun?
You have to find a way to make exercise fun or else you won't do it. If you walk indoors on a treadmill, I recommend moving outdoors into the fresh air... Read more
