Help with Red Lobster food choices?
I am taking the hubby to Red Lobster for daddy's day dinner. What should I order????
Mmm, they have lovely fresh fish selections.
I usually get a dinner salad with dressing on the side. The lunch portion of grilled trout (or salmon, or tilapia), with steamed broccoli and baked potato (butter on the side). And then for dessert.......
a cheddar bay biscuit!!!
I've been looking at their new ad on TV for the lobster and grilled shrimp. Yum. I was personally thinking of getting that with steamed veggies and asking them to be sure to hold all of the butter on the veggies and lobster. I'm sure they will do that for you. And, yea, salad. :)
do you think the baked potato (plane) is better for you than the wild rice pilaf they have?
I was thinking of getting:
Shrimp Cocktail (share)
Garden Salad with vinigar on the side
Grilled Jumbo shrimp or Snow Crab legs (would love the Maine Lobster but$$)
Wild Rice Pilaf
Broccoli (if available)
water with a slice of lemon
and maybe share a bit of desert if the hubby wants something sweet!
Would that be an over load of cals? I usualy keep it at 600 cals for dinner at home.
I have never looked at this before and almost fell out of my chair. This will not going to be easy the link is below. I would eat a lite breakfast and lunch and save for dinner most of your calories. Better yet this is going to be your cheat day and balance the rest of the week.

do they realy hold the butter for you if asked!!!!! that would be awsome...
I would totally think so! Most places are good about custom food orders. I have ordered at several places and asked that the butter on veggies/etc. be not added to my plate.
I checked the link (very helpful) looks like rice is slightly less cals (10). But a baked potato w/only sour cream wouldn't be too bad. I dunno.....If I wanted to sneak in one of their biscuits I'd probably skip the potato. (Maybe order that as you have to pick a side and take it home for the next days lunch!)
Anyway, as the other guy said....have a cheat day, enjoy yourself. Get back to business tomorrow. Keep the rest of the day light. You'll be fine!!
OH that link is awsome. Thanks I will print it out and study it tonight! some are just outlandish 1000 cals!!! ouch...I am so glad I have CC to lend a hand so I am educated and perpared when eating out! Thanks everyone I and my diet appreciate it :-)
- Well you can certainly order any of the "fresh fish flown in daily" just make sure for grilled or oven broiled... but ask for it to be "dry" which would mean no added oil or butter.
- You can also get steamed lobster, snow-crab legs, king-crab legs or rock lobster tail... just make sure you don't indulge in the butter sauce that will come along side for dipping... instead spritz it with lemon, salt and pepper and if you MUST have some sort of sauce, ask for mustard or olive oil.
- Honestly, you could probably order any of the meals just as long as you asked for no butter sauce... but it might be easiest to go with the things I have listed above...
- Don't forget to order lots of asparagus side dishes (just as long as they are steamed or grilled without butter!)
*Enjoy!
they have a part of the menu that lists calories at the restaurant. i dont know if its available online tho...dont see why it wouldnt' be. Its like their light menu. But its still good food.
I have eaten at Red Lobster amd I order from their "light house" menu...you have to ask for it...I have had in the past a plain salad...1/2 fresh fish or tilapia grilled...and steamed brocolli...no butter or salt
I believe the "light house" menu is available online -- go to:
http://www.redlobster.com/menus/lighthouse/
You may need to enter your zipcode and choose the location you're planning to visit.
I also just discovered their 'Smart Meal' calculator, which looks promising :)

You'll be happy to know that the Chilled Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail (which was on your menu above) is a Lighthouse selection, coming in at 120 calories, sporting only 1g fat, 0g saturated fat., 590mg sodium, and 9g carbs (and that assumes you're eating all of it yourself, including all of the cocktail sauce).
I eat at Red Lobster with disturbing frequency, and almost always get the 1/2 fillet (sometimes dubbed 'lunch portion' on the fresh fish menu) of salmon either blackened or wood-fire grilled. It's good enough to be worth the price (which is usually quite decent) even though I practically live on salmon at home.
Also, like everyone else has already pointed out -- it's a celebration :) Give yourself a break and let taste, rather than calories, dictate what you order.
In the long run, it won't make an ounce of difference (literally) in your weight-loss efforts, and the enjoyment and happy memories will be worth it.
