Others more knowledgeable may be able to give better advice but this is what worked for me:

Running and/or HIIT (high intenstity interval training) is what I have found to be the single most effective way to trim up the midsection.  I have taken up running in the past month, and I noticed a difference in my midsection within the week - not kidding.  Needless to say, a clean diet was probably the most important component, but running definitely helped give it a boost.

If you're interested in running (if you don't do that already), you might want to try the Couch to 5K program - I am doing it right now and find it very empowering.  It is a gradual, 12 week program, geared to new runners who want to take up the sport without getting injured.  I find that each week is just enough of a push, without overdoing it.

As for HIIT, you might want to take a look at the HIIT thread here, and Melkor's sticky (see post #1) for more information.  Of course, being able to do HIIT will depend on your level of fitness, you might not be able to do it right now, and may have to work up to it.

Best of luck!

Lovehandles are fat, and there is no way to target fat loss.

For overall fat loss, diet is key - keeping a deficit by eating less than you burn.

After that, lifting heavy (squats, deadlifts, lunges are all good for lower body), then HIIT.

whats the thing called where you are face down with your legs holding you up and you do like a backwards sit up?

am i making any sense?

i did a tun of these back when i lost a lot of weight (25 lbs) and i thought it totally helped with my love handles. but then again i was doing a lot of cardio during that time as welll.

There are three things to do :

1) Nutrition - Make sure to get your nurition in order. It doesn't matter how much exercise you do, if you don't eat right. Usually when a person has bodyfat that they want to lose around their mid-section it is because their diet isn't on track. Get protein (1 gram per pound of bodyweight), complex carbs from whole grains (whole wheat pasta, oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat bread) fruits/vegetables, and healthy fats. Also a lot of water. Eat strict six days a week, and take only one day a week where you have a few cheat meals.

2) Lifting weights - You need to lift weights three times a week at least to gain the lean muscle you will need to speed up your metabolic rate. This helps to burn more calories while at rest. Lifting weights is also the fastest way to lose bodyfat and get toned up. A great program is Starting Strength. It is a full body routine that uses all compound lifts. You do it three times per week. Here is a link that goes into detail on how to do the Starting Strength program and what exercises you do : http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php? t=9982243

3) Do HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) for cardio. The best form of cardio out there. It targets bodyfat, spares muscle, and raises your metabolism for 12-36 hours atfer you are done. The best part, is that you only have to do it three times a week for 20-25 minutes a session. So no more wasting your time on doing hours and hours of cardio everyweek. You can read more about HIIT and how to do it here in the thread : http://caloriecount.about.com/hiit-thread-pos t-all-questions-routines-ft143813

If you get your nutrition in order and start eating enough calories of the right foods, along with weight training and HIIT for cardio, you will definitely begin to see results.

Reverse crunch

All good advise. Side leg raises helped me also lose my lovehandles

No more than any other exercise that helped you keep a calorie deficit.

I repeat: Lovehandles are fat, and there is no way to target fat loss.
